Casadolcecasa Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Casadolcecasa? I mean, with a name like that, I was expecting something maybe a bit too precious or trying too hard to be charming. But honestly, this place gets it right in a way that feels effortless. It’s tucked on Via Riva di Reno, which – if you’re not familiar with Bologna – is this lovely street that runs alongside one of the old canal routes. Most people don’t even realize Bologna has canals, but there they are, and this hotel sits right where you can actually feel that bit of hidden Venice that Bologna keeps to itself.

The building itself has this warm, lived-in elegance that you don’t stumble across every day. When I walked in, the lobby had that particular smell of old Italian buildings – not musty, but rich, like good leather and coffee and maybe a hint of the rain that had been falling on those ancient stones for centuries. The staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They pointed me toward this little osteria about three blocks away that I never would’ve found on my own, and it ended up being one of those perfect Bologna experiences – you know, the kind where you’re elbow-to-elbow with locals and the tagliatelle al ragù makes you understand why people get emotional about food.

The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully done. Nothing flashy, but everything works and feels intentional. The bed was properly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathroom had one of those showers that actually has good water pressure – again, sounds basic, but Italian hotels can be hit or miss on this front. What I really appreciated was how quiet it was at night, even though you’re pretty central. Via Riva di Reno doesn’t get the late-night foot traffic that some of the more touristy streets do, so you can actually sleep. And in the morning, you’re a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but you’re also close enough to the university area that you get this nice mix of students and locals in the cafés nearby. There’s this one place – Bar Centrale – literally around the corner where they do proper cappuccinos and you can grab a cornetto without feeling like you’re in a tourist trap. I ended up going there every morning because, well, why mess with a good thing? The hotel’s location just makes sense if you want to feel like you’re staying in Bologna rather than just visiting it.

This apartment is in a great location for visiting the city. Communication with Federico was excellent from the start. Organising arrival time was easy and he was waiting for me when I arrived. The apartment was super clean and has everything you need for a short stay. The bedroom has huge glass doors which you can open and enjoy watching the world go by and let in plenty of fresh air.

Frederico was a very responsive host who was friendly and very helpful. The apartment is in a great location, its very clean with new facilities and it has a lift which is wonderful. We enjoyed our stay.

What could be improved: It can be a bit noisy as its a busy road but not a problem with the window shutters down and ear plugs.
