Aparthotel Sant’Orsola Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Aparthotel Sant’Orsola on Via Rimesse, I wasn’t expecting much. The street’s pretty quiet, sort of tucked away from Bologna’s main tourist chaos, which actually turned out to be perfect. You know what I mean? Sometimes you want to explore the city but then come back to somewhere that feels… well, not like you’re still in the middle of everything.

The place has this interesting setup where it’s technically an aparthotel, so you get proper kitchenettes in most rooms – and I mean actually functional ones, not those sad little coffee-making corners some places try to pass off. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. They gave me this little map with handwritten notes about which trattorias nearby were worth trying (the one on Via del Borgo di San Pietro was absolutely right). What really struck me was how clean everything felt without being sterile, if that makes sense. The common areas had this lived-in comfort that four-star places sometimes miss when they’re trying too hard to be fancy.

Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites don’t really capture – you’re about a fifteen-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but it’s a pleasant walk through actual neighborhoods where people live and work. I’d pass the same elderly man walking his tiny dog every morning, and there’s this little market on Via Irnerio that locals actually use. The area gets pretty quiet after about 10 PM, which was perfect for sleeping but might feel a bit dead if you’re looking for nightlife right outside your door. Parking was… well, it’s Bologna, so street parking is always an adventure, but they helped me find a spot that first night and gave solid advice about the restricted zones. The rooms themselves are larger than typical Italian hotel rooms – I could actually open my suitcase without rearranging all the furniture. The beds were properly comfortable (not too soft, not like sleeping on a board), and honestly, the shower had better water pressure than my apartment back home. Small thing, but the windows actually blocked out street noise, which in Italy is basically a miracle. By day three, I’d figured out the perfect routine: grab coffee from the bar downstairs, walk to the university area for lunch, then come back for a proper rest before evening plans. The 8.4 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bologna, but it does what it promises really well.

Reviews of Aparthotel Sant’Orsola

  • Good value for money and great restaurant around the corner – Hans from Austria – 23 June 2025 (8/10)

    Location and parking onsite

  • Spacious, Updated Apartment Adjacent to Train Station – Jeffrey from United States – 28 May 2025 (8/10)

Conveniently located neighborhood property directly adjacent to the Bologna San Vitale train station. Property was very spacious and clean with functional, updated decor. Air conditioning was available for use and kitchen was equipped with all basic needs. Property staff was friendly and flexible as our arrival time changed due to train delays.

What could be improved: Overall was very good. Could have used a few additional pillows to improve sleeping comfort. A few extra hangers for clothes would have been helpful too, as our stay was for a week.

  • Great location if you are going to Imola! – Thomas from United Kingdom – 20 May 2025 (10/10)

Great location. Thanks for the team who were very good accommodating our arrival and departure.

What could be improved: The towels provided are hand towels! For the price they need to be larger! No expects full size towels at hotels but a hand towel really is too small!

  • Exceptional – John from Switzerland – 8 May 2025 (10/10)

Big apartment with a lot of space, very well-equipped

What could be improved: Somewhat far from the centre, but the train is right there.
Rooms don't seem to be soundproof – if you have loud neighbours, they can easily be heard.

  • Good base – Marguerite from Gibraltar – 25 April 2025 (8/10)

Spotless spacious apartment with allocated free parking just outside . Quiet even though next to train station . Helpful staff let us in

What could be improved: Location in plain modern suburb right next to a train station. Not so good for wandering into town but useful as base to visit other places by car or train

  • Very enjoyable – Peter from Australia – 26 May 2024 (9/10)

Modern, very clean and close to train station

What could be improved: The internal steps to bedroom but this is because of having bad knees

  • Very good – Alicja from Poland – 2 May 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: close to railway station. There was no such information when you book

  • Very comfortable – Anthony from United Kingdom – 21 September 2023 (9/10)

Spacious Very close to the station and very well equipped

  • Functional apartment with secured parking. – E from United Kingdom – 20 October 2022 (8/10)

Surprising quiet location given that it is next to a branch line railway station. There is gated parking in the courtyard. It's a bit out of the town centre: the best option seems to be a few minutes walk to the No 14 bus stop in Via Massarenti which for 2 euros drops you in the town centre. (often delayed and often crowded though). The apartment is modern and functional, rather than cosy. A few lamps would soften the atmosphere. But accommodation in Bologna is generally expensive, and this was a bit more affordable. We discovered belatedly that the cafe/patisserie near the bus stop is good for breakfast and much cheaper than in town.

What could be improved: The basin and shower in our room didn't drain properly. This is clearly a recurring problem because the bathroom flooring had peeled up from the effect of previous floods.
The kitchen cupboards are very very high: fortunately one of my companions was tall, otherwise I would have needed a stepladder to reach the contents!

  • Good – Ketill from Italy – 6 October 2022 (7/10)

    Size, TV, kitchen, bed

What could be improved: The shower was nasty, real heavy build-up of plaque
