You know what struck me first about Casa del Rettore? It’s tucked right into Via Zamboni, which means you’re basically living in the heart of Bologna’s university quarter – and I mean that in the best possible way. The building itself has this quietly elegant vibe that feels distinctly Italian without trying too hard. Studio Vita clearly knew what they were doing when they designed this place because it manages to feel both sophisticated and welcoming, which honestly isn’t easy to pull off in a four-star property.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you think about it. Via Zamboni runs straight through the university district, so you’re surrounded by that vibrant student energy during the day, but it’s not one of those places where you’ll be kept awake by party noise at night. I mean, sure, there’s activity, but it’s more the good kind – little cafés staying open late, people wandering to dinner, that sort of thing. What really gets me is how you can walk to Piazza Maggiore in maybe ten minutes, but you’re also right near some of the locals’ favorite spots that most tourists never find. There’s this fantastic little osteria called Osteria del Sole just around the corner where you bring your own food and they provide the wine – it’s been there forever and students have been doing this exact thing for decades.

The rooms themselves feel thoughtfully put together, not just decorated. The Studio Vita touch is evident in the details – good lighting (thank god, because so many hotels get this wrong), comfortable beds that actually let you sleep, and bathrooms that work properly. Nothing feels cheap or rushed, which you sometimes get with boutique places that focus more on Instagram-worthy shots than actual comfort. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me because while everything works well and feels quality, it’s not trying to be over-the-top luxurious. It’s more like… well-executed hospitality, if that makes sense. The staff actually seem to know Bologna, so when you ask for restaurant recommendations, you get real answers instead of just the tourist standards. They pointed me toward this incredible gelato place on Via delle Moline that I never would have found otherwise. Honestly, staying here feels like having a really good friend who happens to live in one of Italy’s most underrated cities and knows exactly how to show you around properly.

  It was a perfect setup with 2 BR and 2 bath. We loved the location as well. It was great having a kitchen. We made breakfast every morning.

  The location is perfect, a 15 min walking distancie from the train station and near all interesting points in the old city.
