You know what struck me first about La Casa dei Miei? The name literally means “my family’s house” in Italian, and honestly, that’s exactly what it feels like. I stumbled across this place while looking for something authentic in Bologna – not in the touristy centro storico, but actually in the Savena neighborhood where real Bolognesi live. It’s tucked away on Via Savena Antico, which is this quiet residential street that feels worlds away from the crowds around Piazza Maggiore, even though you’re only about 15 minutes out by bus (the 14 or 20 will get you there easily).

The thing about this place is that it’s got this 9.8 rating for a reason – and I mean, I’m usually skeptical of ratings that high because they seem too good to be true. But the owners, they’ve actually created something special here. The house itself has this wonderful lived-in elegance, sort of like staying at your Italian grandmother’s place if she happened to have impeccable taste and a 4-star budget. The rooms have these gorgeous old wooden floors that creak just slightly when you walk (in a charming way, not annoying), and the windows look out onto typical Bologna streets with their endless porticoes. I actually loved the morning routine of opening the shutters and hearing the neighborhood come alive – espresso machines hissing from the bar downstairs, kids heading to school, that whole authentic Italian morning symphony you don’t get in hotel districts.

What really sets this place apart is how the family running it treats you like, well, family. They’ll sit you down with a proper espresso and actually explain the best way to get around Bologna – not just the obvious tourist spots, but where to find the best tortellini in brodo (hint: it’s not where the guidebooks say), which markets are worth visiting, and how to navigate the city’s quirky bus system. The breakfast spread is incredible too – fresh pastries from a local bakery, proper Italian coffee, and this amazing homemade jam that I’m still thinking about months later. Parking can be a bit tricky in the area since it’s residential, but they’ll help you figure out the street parking situation or point you toward a nearby garage. The whole Savena area is actually perfect if you want to experience Bologna like a local – there are fantastic family-run restaurants within walking distance, a lovely park nearby for morning runs, and you’re still close enough to zip into the historic center whenever you want to do the touristy stuff. I’d definitely stay here again, and I’ve already recommended it to three different friends planning Bologna trips.

  Ottimo appartamento fornito di tutto. Letti comodi, , 2 bagni con docce ampie,, due camere da letto matrimoniali spaziose e una bella cucina.. Il proprietario e' stato veramente cordiale e seppur siamo arrivati con un forte ritardo ci ha aspettati e aiutati.

  Nos gustó que el host era amable y que nos explicó todo el funcionamiento de la casa.
  Que tenía platitos y condimentos para usar.
  La estancia estaba limpia y el aire funciona de 10.

  Comfortabel, ruim, modern, twee aparte slaapkamers met goede bedden, twee badkamers en een keuken. Winkels in de buurt en leuke bars en restaurants. Geluid van stadsverkeer op de achtergrond, maar daar hoor je niets van als op warme dagen de ramen dicht zijn en de airco aan. Met een Tiguan inparkeren in de smalle toegang tot de garage vond ik tamelijk lastig.
  Een prettig appartement buiten het historische centrum in het levendige Bologna.

• Encantador Duplex en Bolonia – Carolina from Spain – 12 May 2025 (10/10)

  Al ser un duplex, con una habitación arriba y otra abajo, y al tener dos baños, uno en la planta de arriba y otro en la de abajo, te permite tener mayor intimidad y espacios separados. Además, Roberto es un anfitrión estupendo, que tenía todo preparado para nuestra estancia allí. 100% recomendado.
