You can wander to Piazza Maggiore in about ten minutes, but you’re also close enough to those little osterie that locals actually frequent. The canal views along Reno aren’t something every visitor discovers, but staying here means you’ll stumble across them naturally.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d want after a day of exploring — comfortable without being fussy. Actually, let me tell you about those beds everyone raves about, because they really did nail that part. I’m usually pretty picky about mattresses, but I slept incredibly well here. The rooms have a clean, modern feel that works well with the historic building, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The bathrooms are well-designed too, with good water pressure (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always guaranteed in Italian city centers).

Getting Around

One thing that surprised me was how walkable everything felt from here. Bologna’s not a huge city, but positioning matters, and Funtanir Rooms gets this right. You’re close enough to the train station that arriving with luggage isn’t a nightmare, but far enough into the centro storico that you feel like you’re really experiencing the city. The nearby streets have that perfect mix of everyday Italian life and historic atmosphere — you’ll pass locals heading to work alongside students rushing to lectures.

What really works about this place is how it balances comfort with authenticity. You’re not staying in some generic hotel that could be anywhere — this feels distinctly Bolognese.   Very comfortable single bedroom with pretty terrace. Good location between train station and city centre. Shared kitchen, complimentary coffee and facilities all excellent. Hosts were friendly and accommodating.

  It was big enough, clean and private. Comfortable room, and spacious bathroom for a person. Also location was great, and although I didn’t use it, the shared spaces were nice and it was good that there was complimentary coffee, tea and cookies.

  One of the best places I have rented. It was spotless, wonderfully decorated with all the necessary facilities. There was a good Smeg fridge freezer which is a must for diabetics like me, a designated smoking area, all rooms with ensuite and the bistro run by the same owner was a bonus.
  
  The host was very responsive and ready to help us all. He made us feel very welcome and allowed us to keep the luggage and my medicine there on the last day after check out.

  Quite an unusual decor, but given the properties background this was understandable. Great open plan space in the living area so adequately accommodated our party of 10. Property was well looked after and clean. Bedrooms are well furnished and great to see separate ensuite bathrooms. Location was good to the train and bus stations. 15 minute walk to the centre and all attractions.
  
  The owner has an adjoining bar and serves lunch for €10, this was very welcoming and extremely good value for money. Ideal after we had checked in.
  
  What could be improved: The rooms can appear a little dark, but given we only used them for sleeping that wasn’t an issue.

  Our stay in Bologna was excellent! We got to the apartment from the airport very easily. It was easy to find, and the owner was always available, responding quickly to both calls and messages. The location is close to the city center, and we were able to walk everywhere. The apartment has a great bar downstairs, and we enjoyed chatting with the friendly staff in the evenings. No noise from the bar could be heard in the room. There’s also a supermarket nearby if you prefer to cook, but we took advantage of the local bars and restaurants. On our departure day, we had a late flight, and after checking out, we were able to leave our luggage in a common area and pick it up in the evening without any issues.
  
  What could be improved: The only thing we didn’t love was the lack of fresh air in the room, but this was easily compensated by the air conditioning. We’re just used to fresh air in the mornings, but it wasn’t a big issue at all
