Cinquantacinque Overview

So I stumbled across Cinquantacinque during my third trip to Bologna – honestly, I’d walked past that corner on Via Nosadella dozens of times without really noticing it. The Saragozza neighborhood isn’t exactly where first-time visitors usually end up, which is actually perfect if you’re tired of dodging selfie sticks around Piazza Maggiore. It’s this quietly cool area where you’ll find more locals than tourists, and the hotel fits right into that vibe. The building itself has that understated Italian elegance thing going on – you know, the kind where everything looks effortlessly put together but you can tell someone really thought about the details.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to actually know Bologna, not just the usual tourist script. The guy at reception (I think his name was Marco?) told me about this little osteria about three blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise, and he was right – best tortellini in brodo I had all week. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, nothing groundbreaking but comfortable and clean, with those thick Italian linens that somehow always feel better than hotel sheets back home. I mean, the bathroom was a bit snug, but honestly, when are they not in these older European buildings? The real win is the location – you’re a 15-minute walk from the historic center, but you’re also surrounded by actual neighborhood life. There’s a morning market that sets up on Via San Mamolo (just around the corner), and the whole area comes alive with aperitivo spots once the sun starts setting.

Here’s what I really appreciated: it never felt like a tourist trap. Sure, you’ll pay Bologna prices, but you’re not getting gouged just because you’re foreign. The breakfast was solid – proper coffee, obviously, and they had these amazing local pastries that changed daily. Parking can be tricky in this part of town, but the hotel has a deal with a garage about two blocks away, which honestly saved me a massive headache. One thing worth mentioning – if you’re the type who needs to be right in the thick of things, this might feel a bit removed. But if you want to experience Bologna like someone who actually lives there, rather than just hitting the main tourist checklist, Cinquantacinque nails it. Plus, the whole Saragozza area is perfect for evening strolls, especially if you head toward the Sanctuary of San Luca – the portico walk is stunning at sunset, and most visitors never make it that far out.

  • Delightful apartment in a great location that exceeded expectations – Sharon from United Kingdom – 18 October 2024 (9/10)

The photos don't do this delightful apartment justice. Bigger than we expected, it had a fully equipped kitchen, loads of wardrobe space, a comfy bed and was in a delightful neighbourhood an easy walk from Piazza Margiorre. The Corner Bar downstairs was a boost too!

What could be improved: The shower could do with a rethink. Plenty of hot water with good pressure but the shower curtain just isn't quite up to the task……

  • Superb – Milena from Bulgaria – 13 June 2023 (9/10)

Guido (the owner) was a really nice person. Met us at the address and gave some useful tips for places to eat 🙂 The apartment was well-equipped, had all that a family might need for a pleasant stay, even some pasta and croissants (along with coffee, milk, juice, croissants). Definitely a TOP place to stay in Bologna, close to the main attractions and the train station ( around 15 to 20 minutes walking ).
