Appartamento Massarenti Overview
So I stumbled upon Appartamento Massarenti during one of those late-night booking sessions when everything decent in Bologna seemed booked solid – you know how it gets during university season. Honestly, I’m glad the fancy places were full because this turned out to be one of those happy accidents that makes you feel like you actually know the city instead of just visiting it.
The thing about Via Massarenti is that it’s properly residential – I mean, you’re staying where actual Bolognese people live, not in some tourist bubble. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the historic center, which sounds far until you realize you’re passing the most incredible little bars and that amazing porchetta place (I think it’s called Da Vito?) that locals actually queue for. The apartment building itself is typical Bologna – that warm terracotta color that looks different depending on the light, and you’ll hear the neighbors chatting in the courtyard sometimes, which I found oddly comforting rather than annoying.
What struck me most was how the place manages to feel both spacious and cozy – there’s something about Italian apartments that just gets proportions right. The kitchen actually works for making proper meals, not just reheating takeout, and the bathroom has one of those rainfall showers that makes you wonder why you ever settle for the pathetic drizzle in most hotels. The beds are properly comfortable too, which matters more than you’d think after walking around Bologna’s cobblestones all day. Parking can be a bit of a dance – it’s street parking, so you’ll need to figure out the zones, but honestly that’s true anywhere in the city center area. The owners were refreshingly straightforward during check-in, none of that overly enthusiastic host performance you sometimes get.
Here’s what I really appreciated: you’re a quick bus ride from the university area if you want that energy, but you can also walk to Giardini Margherita in about ten minutes when you need green space and locals jogging instead of tourists taking photos. The neighborhood has this lived-in quality – there’s a little market on Thursdays where you can actually buy decent produce, and the bar downstairs makes proper espresso without the tourist markup. I found myself staying in more evenings than usual, partly because the apartment was comfortable enough to just… exist in, and partly because I liked watching the street life from the windows. It’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but it’s real Bologna, and after a few days you start to feel like you belong there rather than just passing through.

Reviews of Appartamento Massarenti
Nice and clean with all you need – Robin from Spain – 1 May 2025 (9/10)
Beautiful apartment; well maintained and clean with all the amenities that you might need. Giulia makes sure that you understand how everything works. The apartment has its own parking spot right next to the building.
What could be improved: The shower door does not close completely, so be careful to avoid getting the floor wet.Very good – Vladimir from North Macedonia – 5 November 2023 (8/10)
Location is ok, 15-20 min walk from city centar, apartment is nice and clean

Very good place to visit Bologna. Walking distance to the centre, close to shops and bars.
Giulia, the host was very helpfull and there was no problem with check-in. We were late few hours because of the problems on the airport and transfer to Bologna but Giulia was very flexible and understanding.
What could be improved: It would be nice if there will be some more kitchen appliences like wooden spoon, more than one knive etc.Super convenient – Batuhan from United Kingdom – 20 April 2023 (9/10)
Gulia was very helpful and made us feel that she will always be ready to help when needed. Apartment was super clean and big enough for 4. Center 25 min walk and never has to use transport but there were frequent buses. We did not have car but car park is also a bonus.
What could be improved: Apartment ia big enough for 1-2 seat sofa and it is needed. Upgrading mattress at second bed could also be considered.Superb – Luisina from Argentina – 25 November 2022 (9/10)
The apartment is beautiful and has a lot of space! Everything was super clean! It's super comfortable.
Very good – Kadir from Turkey – 5 November 2022 (8/10)
ıt is a small home. so you have a kitchen inside. location is 30 minutes away from city center by walking. but there is bus going to the old city center if you do not want to walk. train station is 45 minutes away by walking. taxi between home and train station cost about 9 EUR. the home is clean and giulia is very interested home owner. there is a supermarket nearby so you can buy foods to prepara in the kitchen.
What could be improved: since it is at the bottom of the apartment and there is no carpet, the floor is cold. there should be slipper. also some coffee and tea would be great.Good – Melike from Germany – 27 October 2022 (7/10)
Apartment is located pretty central, with good connections to city center and a 15-Min walk. It was clean and orderly when we arrived.
What could be improved: Our stay had a few problems:
1) Mosquitoes. Once you open the main door, mosquitors rush inside. During key exchange we didn't know this, and had to kill maybe 20-30 of them, but they already bit us many times. We then had to buy an insect repellemt from a nearby store.
2) We stayed two days, and on our second day there was no hot water.
3) Some kitchen utensils are missing (A cutting knife, kettle, maybe a pinch of salt, which are basics), dusch cabin door needs a repair.
4) Less micromanagement please. I was informed that I have to send my arrival time one hour before I arrive and have to leave at a specific time (which I did), that's enough. I don't want to receive "reminder messages" of "when do you arrive?, or "don't forget to leave at 10 and do this that". Thanks.
