Via Riva di Reno isn’t one of those touristy streets where you’re dodging selfie sticks every five meters – it’s right in the heart of Bologna’s centro storico, but on a quieter stretch where actual Bolognesi live and work. I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but the street itself has this lovely residential feel that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like you’re crashing at a friend’s really nice apartment.

The building itself is classic Bologna – that warm terracotta color you see everywhere in the city, with those beautiful porticoes that basically make umbrellas obsolete (honestly, whoever invented Bologna’s covered walkways was a genius). Inside, they’ve done something really smart with the renovation. It’s modern without being sterile, you know? The rooms have that clean, minimalist thing going on, but they haven’t stripped away all the character. High ceilings, original hardwood floors in some units, and windows that actually open wide enough to let in the sounds of the city – which, by the way, is mostly just the gentle hum of Vespas and the occasional church bell, not traffic chaos.

What I really appreciated was how they handle the practical stuff. Check-in is smooth (they actually answer their phones, which isn’t always a given with apartment-style places), and they clearly know their neighborhood. The woman who showed me around mentioned that the little osteria around the corner – I think it was called Al Sangiovese – stays open later than most places if you’re coming back from a night out. That’s the kind of local intel you can’t get from a big chain hotel. Storage space is decent, the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, and the bathrooms are properly updated with good water pressure. Small thing, but when you’re washing off a day of wandering around Bologna’s medieval streets, it matters.

The location really shines during the day though. You’re close enough to duck into Mercato di Mezzo for morning coffee and pastries, but far enough from the university area that you’re not dealing with the student crowd noise at night. Via del Pratello – Bologna’s main nightlife strip – is maybe a five-minute walk, so you can stumble home easily, but you won’t hear the revelry from your room. And honestly, being this close to the Jewish quarter means you’re in one of the most historically rich parts of an already history-soaked city, with these tiny medieval alleys branching off in every direction.

Is it perfect? Well, like most historic buildings in Bologna, the walls can be a bit thin, and if you’re on a lower floor, you’ll definitely hear the portico foot traffic during busy periods. But for the price point and the 8.1 rating it’s earned, Italianway delivers exactly what you want from a Bologna base – authentic neighborhood feel, solid comfort, and that sweet spot where you feel connected to the city without being overwhelmed by it.

  Der Check in war unkompliziert. Freundlicher Empfang und flexibel. Unerwarteter Weise waren wir früher als vereinbart am Ziel und konnten die Wohnung bereits vor dem vereinbarten Zeitpunkt übernehmen.
  Der Check out war ebenso unkompliziert. Nach kurzem telefonischen Kontakt haben wir den Schlüssel in der Wohnung zurück gelassen und sind abgereist.
  Nun zur Wohnung:
  Die Wohnung liegt in unmittelbarer Nähe zur Altstadt / Zentrum, Fußweg ca. 5 Minuten.
  Direkt vor dem Haus befinden sich zahlreiche blau markierte Parkplätze, welche aktuell ab Freitag 20:00 – Montag 09:00 Uhr und an Feiertagen kostenlos sind sowie eine E-Ladesäule. Allerdings sind diese auch meistens belegt. In der Nähe (ca. 5 Minuten Fußweg, 3 Minuten mit dem Auto) befindet das sehr gute Parkhaus "Parcheggio Riva Reno". Zum Zeitpunkt unseres Aufenthaltes kostete das Parken dort 22 Euro pro 24 Stunden. Es ist keinesfalls empfehlenswert auf weiß oder gelb markierten Parkplätzen zu parken.
  Die Wohnung liegt in der 3. Etage eines Mehrfamilienhauses und ist über einen kleinen Aufzug erreichbar. Die Zugänge zum Haus und zur Wohnung machen einen sehr sicheren Eindruck. Die Wohnung selbst ist mit den Bildern auf Booking identisch und recht gemütlich. Es ist alles vorhanden, was für einen Urlaub erforderlich ist, auch für Selbstversorger. Lebensmittel und Getränke findet man bei Bedarf in 3 Supermärkten in unmittelbarer Nähe.
  Die Klimaanlagen funktionieren sehr gut, wir habe sie allerdings nur selten genutzt. Alle Räume lassen sich sehr gut verdunkeln um das Aufheizen tagsüber zu reduzieren. Das Bad ist ausreichend groß und mit einer schönen Duschkabine ausgestattet. Es gibt allerdings nur wenig Ablageflächen.
  Der Balkon ist ziemlich klein aber ausreichend für 2 Personen. Wir haben die zwei Balkonstühle genutzt, um abends noch ein letztes Glas Wein zu trinken. Leider ist kein Tisch für den Balkon vorhanden.
  
  What could be improved: Die Sitzmöbel in der Wohnküche sind etwas durchgesessen, hier besteht Handlungsbedarf.

  What could be improved: the bed was not a double bed, but two single beds placed close together. since i was with my partner this was not super comfortable. also no extra pillows were available at the apartment – only 1 per person was provided.

  What could be improved: Il fatto che mi sia stata richiesta la carta di credito e il con il numero a 3 cifre(CvC) non previsto dal contratto con Booking per eventuali danni alla struttura . Successivamente su mia richiesta mi hanno inviato una mail con scritto che non ho arrecato danni e che non useranno più la carta. Non mi è piaciuto il materasso perché era molto scomodo, per la precisione erano due materassi uniti dell’Ikea (così come le coperte corte) e i cuscini. In più un giorno ho messo a lavare dei panni in lavatrice e si è bloccata, quindi ho perso una giornata per aspettare che risolvessero il problema ( non causato da me). Il soffitto del bagno presentava danni provocati dall’umidità con l’intonaco staccato.

  Good location – not supercentral but in walking distance from the station and to everything, and at the same time: nice and quiet. Located in a regular apartment building. It was close to a really good grocery store – PAM, where they have everything you could need and with good opening hours. Nice with the balcony! It would be even better if there was a table to use there.
  
  What could be improved: Somewhat loud neighbours above us on the next floor, unclear why they moved furniture and ran around all night our first night. Very well worn out furniture especially in the kitchen area – the surface layer of these sofas crumbled and stuck to the clothes. They honestly need to be replaced.

  Bright, clean and well equipped apartment that’s quiet despite its city centre location. The bed is big and really comfortable. The apartment is in a great location with a supermarket opposite and is less than 10 minutes walk to Bologna attractions and restaurants. Paolo from Italianway is a warm and very responsive host who gave us great local tips. We’d stay again for sure.
