My Home in Bologna – La Rossa Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of Bologna hotels, and honestly? Most of them feel like they’re trying too hard to be something they’re not. But My Home in Bologna – La Rossa gets it right in this effortless way that actually makes you feel like you’re crashing at a friend’s place (if your friend happened to have impeccable taste and a primo location).

The thing is, they’ve got this spot on Via Augusto Righi that’s just… well, it’s perfect if you know Bologna at all. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the university area – I mean, you can hear the students sometimes in the evening, but it’s not rowdy noise, more like that gentle hum of a neighborhood that’s actually alive. And here’s what I love: you can walk to Piazza Maggiore in about ten minutes, but you’re far enough away that you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos when you just want to grab a coffee in the morning. There’s this little alimentari right around the corner where the owner, Signora Maria, will hook you up with the best mortadella you’ll ever taste – the kind of local spot you’d never find if you were staying near the train station.

What really got me about this place was how they’ve managed to nail that whole “home away from home” vibe without it feeling forced or fake. The rooms have this warmth to them – not just the decor (though honestly, whoever picked out those textiles knows what they’re doing), but the way everything’s been thought through. The bathroom products smell like bergamot and cedar, not that generic hotel soap smell. The beds are properly firm – none of that sinking-into-quicksand nonsense you get at some places. And you know what? The WiFi actually works everywhere, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many Bologna hotels still haven’t figured that out. I was working from the room some mornings and never had issues, even during video calls.

The staff here gets it too – they’re not hovering or overly formal, just genuinely helpful when you need something. When I mentioned I was looking for a good aperitivo spot that wasn’t touristy, the guy at the front desk didn’t just rattle off the usual suspects. He actually drew me a little map to this place near Via del Pratello where locals go. That’s the kind of attention that makes a difference. Plus, they sorted out parking for me without making it feel like I was asking them to move mountains – if you’re driving in Bologna, you’ll appreciate that more than you know.

The whole experience just feels… right. It’s polished enough that you feel looked after, but relaxed enough that you’re not afraid to leave your book on the lobby couch or ask for restaurant recommendations. And with that 9.6 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who thinks they’ve struck the right balance. Bologna’s got plenty of places to stay, but this one actually makes you want to come back to the city just to stay here again.

Reviews of My Home in Bologna – La Rossa

  • Great apartment in a good location! – Heather from United States – 13 July 2025 (10/10)

Great apartment, good use of space, amazing water pressure in the shower, well equipped kitchen. charming little balcony where we ate breakfast every morning. The host was helpful & gracious! The location is perfect, the restaurant we enjoyed the most is straight out the apartment building door. Loved the lock on the apartment door, felt so safe!

What could be improved: The mattress was too hard for me, but my husband thought it was fine.

  • Exceptional – Christopher from Australia – 8 June 2025 (10/10)

Lovely clean apartment, very well equipped and in a great location halfway between the train station and old town with the piazza Maggiore. It is very easy to walk everywhere. Very accommodating and helpful owner. Restaurants literally outside your door, we also ate at the Sofia Regina near the Piazza Maggiore which was lovely.

  • Location location and lovely unit – Dianne from Australia – 1 May 2025 (10/10)

Location and the property is beautiful and my only suggestion is maybe put a microwave in

What could be improved: Only contact was through WhatsApp which and we think we have been scammed because we’ve been asked to pay extra money and the bank has put a stop on my credit card so not sure what this is all about but be aware…

  • Superb apartment in the heart of Bologna – perfect for two! – Megan from Australia – 25 October 2024 (10/10)

What a beautiful little apartment!! This apartment was an absolute gem – very central location with a raft of wonderful restaurants in the street below, but the sound proofing was excellent – the thick glazed windows completely blocked out the bustle of the street. Huge and very comfortable bed- slept like a log. Very well setup kitchen, bathroom, washing machine etc. A perfect apartment for two people – we really loved it at La Rossa! Would definitely be my first choice again for Bologna.

    What could be improved: Nothing!
