You know what struck me first about the Suite Marco? It’s tucked away on the second floor of this beautiful old building on Via Filippo Turati, and honestly, the location is just perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Bologna rather than just visiting it. I mean, you’re right in Saragozza – which locals will tell you is one of the more residential, authentic parts of the city – but you can still walk to the historic center in about fifteen minutes. The street itself is pretty quiet, especially at night, which was a relief after staying in some noisier spots near Piazza Maggiore on previous trips.

The suite itself feels more like borrowing a friend’s incredibly well-appointed apartment than staying in a hotel. The Residence San Luca people clearly know what they’re doing – everything from the check-in process to the way the space is laid out just works. The kitchen actually has proper equipment (not those sad hotel kitchenettes), and there’s this lovely sitting area where you can spread out with your maps and guidebooks. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to keep the character of the building – you’ll notice the high ceilings and original details – while making everything feel completely modern and comfortable. The bed was fantastic, by the way, which matters more than people admit when you’re doing a lot of walking around cobblestone streets all day.

Here’s the thing about this location that guidebooks won’t tell you: you’re perfectly positioned to explore Bologna like locals do. There’s a fantastic little osteria just around the corner that serves the best tortellini in brodo I’ve had outside of someone’s nonna’s kitchen, and the morning market on Via Ugo Bassi is an easy stroll away. Plus – and this is crucial if you’re planning to do any day trips – the train station is accessible without having to navigate the crazy traffic around the university area. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra night because I realized I could use this as a base for exploring more of Emilia-Romagna. The staff was incredibly helpful with restaurant recommendations too, and not the touristy places – I’m talking about spots where you’ll hear more Italian than English, which is exactly what you want.

  La ubicación. Se puede ir andando al centro sin problema. Y también hay cerca sitios donde desayunar, comer o cenar.
