Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Bologna’s centro storico, but Amendola16 actually gets it right. The building sits on this quiet stretch of Via Giovanni Amendola – you know, that street that runs parallel to the main shopping area but without all the tourist chaos. When I first walked up, I was honestly surprised by how modern the entrance looked compared to the weathered medieval buildings surrounding it.

The thing about this place is that it feels like someone who actually travels designed it. The rooms have this clean, minimalist vibe that doesn’t try too hard to be “authentically Italian” with fake rustic touches – instead, you get proper lighting for reading, outlets where you need them, and a bathroom that actually has counter space for your stuff. I mean, the basics done well, which is rarer than you’d think. The staff seems to know their neighborhood too, not just the obvious tourist spots. When I asked about where locals eat, the guy at the front desk didn’t just hand me a generic list – he told me about this tiny osteria three blocks over that I never would have found otherwise.

What really sold me on the area, though, is how walkable everything is from here. You’re maybe seven minutes from Piazza Maggiore if you cut through the side streets, but you’re also close to the university quarter where things feel more lived-in and less touristy. There’s this great morning market on Saturdays just two streets over – nothing fancy, but you can grab proper coffee and pastries while watching actual Bolognese people go about their day. The train station is close enough that you won’t break your back dragging luggage, but far enough that you don’t hear the constant announcements or deal with the crowds of backpackers. Honestly, the location alone makes this worth considering, especially if you want to explore beyond the main tourist circuit. The rooms are quiet too – I was there in late spring when the windows were open, and all I heard were normal city sounds, not the late-night revelry you get closer to the university bars. It’s not perfect – the elevator is pretty small if you’re traveling with big suitcases, and the breakfast area gets crowded around 8:30 – but for a four-star place in this part of Bologna, it delivers on the things that actually matter when you’re trying to get a feel for the city.

  Great location – next to the station and easy walking distance from the old town.

  Great location right across from the train station. The room is great with a super comfortable bed. There is a small fridge, and a coffee machine and they provide very basic breakfast snacks which are a good start to the day! In the hallway there is access to a kettle and microwave, cutlery is also provided. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend Amendola16 to anyone who wants to stay close to the train station!
