I 4 Gatti Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to I 4 Gatti on Via Audinot, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical four-star hotel. The name translates to “The 4 Cats,” which honestly sets the tone perfectly — there’s something playful yet sophisticated about this place that becomes clear the moment you step inside. It’s tucked into the Saragozza neighborhood, and I mean this in the best way possible, it feels like you’ve discovered something locals would rather keep to themselves.
The Saragozza Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in this part of Bologna — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from the tourist crowds to actually breathe. The Saragozza area has this residential charm where you’ll find yourself walking past actual Bolognese families heading to the market, not just other travelers with cameras. You can easily reach the historic center, but when you come back in the evening, there’s this peaceful quality that’s hard to find in more central locations. The fact that couples rate the location 9.3 makes total sense once you experience those quiet evening strolls through the neighborhood.
Your Room and Comfort
The room design strikes this nice balance between modern comfort and Italian character — you know, clean lines but with enough personality that you don’t feel like you’re in a generic chain hotel. What really impressed me was the attention to details that actually matter when you’re traveling. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The bathrooms are well-appointed, and honestly, after walking around Bologna all day, having a proper shower with good water pressure is exactly what you need.
Morning Fuel
Breakfast here is where Italian hospitality really shines through. They offer this nice mix of continental options alongside proper Italian breakfast items — so you can have your familiar coffee and pastries, but also try some local specialties if you’re feeling adventurous. The buffet setup means you can take your time and not feel rushed, which I appreciate when I’m trying to plan out my day. Plus, starting your morning with a proper Italian coffee sets the right tone for exploring Bologna’s food scene later.
Why Guests Love It
What makes I 4 Gatti work so well is that combination of location and genuine comfort without any pretense. You’ve got parking available on-site, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Italian city centers with a car will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The staff seems to actually care about making your stay pleasant rather than just going through the motions. It’s the kind of place where you feel settled rather than just passing through — and in a city like Bologna where the whole point is to slow down and enjoy the food, the architecture, and the pace of life, that feeling makes all the difference.

The room and toilet was spacious.
It was almost being home away from home.A lovely 'home from home' in Bologna – Hac911 from United Kingdom – 21 March 2025 (10/10)
The hotel was lovely – it didn't take long to walk into the historic heart of the city and it was very close to the famous portico leading up the Santuario della Beata Vergine di San Luca. Our host went above and beyond to offer advice and suggestions. Whilst some of the rooms are not en suite each has a private bathroom, which may be across the landing. I stayed in room 5 and it was delightful with plenty of storage, great lighting and very comfy beds. Highly recommended.
