It’s tucked away on Via delle Tofane in this quiet corner of Saragozza that feels completely removed from Bologna’s tourist hustle, but you’re actually only a pleasant 15-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore. I mean, most people don’t even know this neighborhood exists – it’s where actual Bolognese live, with their morning coffee rituals and that little market on Via Saragozza where locals grab fresh pasta ingredients.

The hotel itself has this understated elegance that Italians do so well. None of that flashy lobby nonsense you see everywhere – just really thoughtful touches like the way they’ve restored the original terrazzo floors and these gorgeous high ceilings that make even the smaller rooms feel spacious. Honestly, the 9.5 rating makes total sense once you experience their attention to detail. The staff actually remembers your name (and your coffee preference), which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re jet-lagged and trying to figure out where to find decent gelato at 10 PM. Speaking of which – Gelatauro is literally three blocks away, and it’s where university students go, not tourists.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night. Saragozza isn’t exactly a party district, so you’ll sleep well, but you’re close enough to walk to the Osteria del Sole for aperitivo or catch one of those incredible late dinners at Trattoria Anna Maria (though you’ll need reservations). The rooms have this perfect balance of modern comfort and Italian character – good Wi-Fi, excellent shower pressure, but also these lovely wooden shutters that actually block out light. Pro tip: if you’re driving, they can arrange parking nearby because street parking here is… well, it’s Bologna, so good luck with that. The check-in process was refreshingly personal too – they gave me a hand-drawn map with their favorite local spots marked, including this tiny enoteca around the corner that I never would have found otherwise. It’s the kind of place where you start planning your next Bologna trip before you’ve even checked out.
