Irnerio Apartments by Wonderful Italy Overview
So I stumbled upon these Irnerio Apartments during what was supposed to be a quick Bologna work trip, and honestly? I ended up extending my stay just because I didn’t want to leave. The building sits right on Via Irnerio – and if you know Bologna at all, you know this street basically connects the university district to the center without being totally overrun with tourists. It’s got that perfect local vibe where you’ll see more students grabbing morning coffee than people dragging suitcases around.
The apartments themselves are… well, they’re what you’d actually want if you were living in Bologna for a few weeks rather than just passing through. I mean, there’s a proper kitchen where I actually cooked (something I rarely do when traveling), and the whole setup feels more like borrowing a friend’s place than staying in some sterile hotel room. The Wonderful Italy folks clearly get that people want space to spread out – my bathroom was bigger than some entire hotel rooms I’ve stayed in around Europe. You know what really got me though? The morning light. These big windows face east, so you wake up with this gorgeous golden light streaming in, and you can hear the city waking up below but it’s not obnoxiously loud. Just… alive, if that makes sense.
Location-wise, you’re about a fifteen-minute walk to Piazza Maggiore, but here’s the thing – you’ll want to take that walk because you’ll pass through some of the best parts of the city. There’s this little alimentari right around the corner where the owner started recognizing me after day three and would recommend different local wines. The university area means there are actually decent, affordable restaurants nearby (not just tourist traps), and you’re close enough to Via Zamboni that you can join the evening passeggiata without planning your whole night around it. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving – Bologna’s historic center doesn’t exactly love cars – but the staff actually helped me figure out the permit situation instead of just shrugging like most places do. The 8.1 rating feels about right, honestly. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities, but it nails all the stuff that actually matters when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. The WiFi works, the shower has proper pressure, and there’s enough space to not feel like you’re living out of a suitcase.

Lots of food places nearby. Very accessible. Great host. Great location
Good – Annette from Ireland – 14 October 2024 (7/10)
Very big and spacious apartments.
What could be improved: Black Widow apartment – Shower head missing in one bathroom so could not use this for showers. Other shower had to hang it out of the window handle as no holder for shower. Very bad sewer smell from bathrooms in Blue Velvet apartment.Superb – Jean from United States – 9 June 2024 (9/10)
It was spacious. Good location. Very clean
What could be improved: Beds were too firmVery good – Brian from United States – 29 May 2024 (8/10)
It was a wonderful experience. The apartment was just what we needed.
great location for groups, not the best rest due to the beds – Shiselle from United States – 10 May 2024 (7/10)
perfect location and the rooms were very spacious, which is what you need with a group. the kitchen was absolutely beautiful. having two bathrooms was also good.
What could be improved: the beds were quite uncomfortable and the bathrooms needed work. the toilet seat was not fixed properly so it kept moving away when you’d sit on it. also one of the showered didn’t have the proper plastic and it didn’t close, so when you showered you ended up with a huge puddle of water on the floor no matter what.Location, location! – Damien from Australia – 31 March 2024 (8/10)
Location was excellent, close to walk to most areas of the City Centre, Bologna Centrale train station etc. Apartment was clean & comfortable.
What could be improved: The bar downstairs on the street was loud! Shower cubicles a bit tight.Great hosts and apartment just be aware that its not a quiet location – Mark from United Kingdom – 20 November 2023 (7/10)
great hosts, super flexible – helped us when we needed something Provided a late check out
What could be improved: Just be aware the apartment is on a main street which is noisy late at night.Ari – Ari from Finland – 17 November 2023 (7/10)

What could be improved: Noice from streetWonderful – Bologna is a beautiful city. – Mandy from United Kingdom – 30 October 2023 (9/10)
We were met and shown the flat.
What could be improved: Wish there was a sitting room. Table and chairs were fine but a comfy room would be great as we had children and my 82 year old Dad.Good – Maria from Greece – 27 September 2023 (7/10)
The location was convenient as we needed a parking close by. The apartment is big so 5 people
were very comfortably fitted in the apartment.
What could be improved: During our stay the elevator wasn’t working, so
Walking up all these floors wasn’t at all nice, 2 or 4 times a day. Also, we weren’t offered any discount on the inconvenience, and had limited to no information about this, so we couldn’t plan accordingly.
