Holiday Inn Bologna – Fiera by IHG Overview
You know what? I was honestly a bit skeptical when I first pulled up to the Holiday Inn Bologna – Fiera. I mean, it’s right in the trade fair district on Via Del Commercio Associato, which sounds incredibly industrial (and well, it sort of is). But here’s the thing – this location is actually brilliant if you know Bologna at all. You’re literally five minutes from the Fiera district if you’re here on business, but more importantly, you can hop on the metro and be in the heart of Bologna’s historic center in about fifteen minutes. The Fiera stop is right there, and honestly, having that direct connection makes all the difference.
The hotel itself surprised me in the best way. Walking into the lobby, there’s this clean, modern vibe that feels fresh without being sterile – you know how some chain hotels can feel like they’re trying too hard? This doesn’t have that problem. The staff at check-in actually knew their stuff about getting around the city, which I appreciated since I was juggling meetings at the fair and wanted to squeeze in some proper Bologna eating. Speaking of which, the breakfast here is solid – not just the standard continental spread, but they’ve got some local touches that show they get where they are. The coffee is proper Italian coffee, thank god, not that watery stuff you sometimes get at international chains.
The rooms are what you’d expect from a well-run Holiday Inn, but with better attention to detail than usual. Good blackout curtains (essential if you’re dealing with jet lag), actually comfortable beds, and – this matters more than people think – really good WiFi throughout. I was working from the room between appointments and never had connectivity issues. The soundproofing is pretty decent too, though you’ll hear some traffic noise if you’re facing the main road. It’s not terrible, just city sounds. What I really appreciated was how clean everything felt – you know that slightly off smell some hotels have? None of that here. The housekeeping team clearly takes pride in their work.
If you’re wondering about exploring Bologna from here, it’s honestly ideal. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from Piazza Maggiore, but you’re also not dealing with the tourist crowds and narrow medieval streets when you just want to get back to your hotel after a long day. Plus, there’s actually decent parking here, which anyone who’s tried to drive in Bologna’s city center will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The area has some solid local restaurants too – nothing fancy, but the kind of places where you’ll get real ragù Bolognese without the tourist markup. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was mixing business with pleasure or just wanted a comfortable base for exploring the city without the historic center’s chaos.

The location of the hotel is perfect especially for those guests who travel by car. Besides visiting Bologna, we used it a starting point for visiting several other interesting places (e.g., Ferrara, Verona, Modena, Comacchio, Maranello, Padova), and from this point of view, the location was simply great.
The breakfast offer was rather simple but fine for us.
The hotel wifi worked very well during our stay.
What could be improved: The hotel gym is in fact a mini-gym with limited options. Will stay again in Holiday Inn Fiera – Julius from Hungary – 6 April 2025 (7/10)
