Galliera Street Overview

So I’ve stayed at the Galliera Street a few times now, and honestly? It’s one of those places that gets better every time you visit. The location is what really sold me initially – you’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but tucked away on Via Galliera where you actually get some peace at night. I mean, Bologna can get pretty lively (especially around the university quarter), but this street has that sweet spot vibe where you’re close to everything without the constant buzz of Vespas under your window at 2 AM.

The hotel itself feels properly Italian without being stuffy about it. The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance – think rich wood and brass fixtures that have actually aged well, not the fake vintage stuff you see everywhere. What I really appreciate is how the staff actually knows the neighborhood. Last time I was there, the guy at the front desk didn’t just give me directions to Osteria del Sole, he told me what time to show up to snag a table and warned me to bring my own food (it’s this quirky old place where they only serve wine and you bring your own spread – total local secret). That kind of insight you just don’t get at chain hotels.

The rooms are solid four-star territory without any pretense. Mine had these gorgeous high ceilings and shuttered windows that open onto the street – you know what I mean, proper European shutters that actually block out light. The bathroom was modern but respectfully done, and the bed was honestly one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in during my Italy travels. Air conditioning works great too, which matters more than you’d think during those sticky Bologna summers. One small thing – the WiFi can be a bit spotty on the upper floors, but honestly, that almost felt like a feature when I was trying to disconnect.

What really sets this place apart is how it fits into the Bologna experience. You’re walking distance from the Quadrilatero market area (perfect for morning coffee and people-watching), and the Two Towers are maybe ten minutes away if you want to tackle those medieval steps. The hotel sits right in that zone where you can stumble home after a long dinner without needing a taxi, but you’re not dealing with the tourist crowds that camp out closer to the main piazza. Plus, there’s actually decent parking nearby – not at the hotel itself, but they’ll point you toward a garage that won’t completely destroy your budget.

I keep coming back because it strikes this perfect balance between being genuinely comfortable and authentically Bolognese. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it knows what it is and does it really well. The 9.2 rating honestly feels about right – it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re staying in Bologna rather than just sleeping there.

Reviews of Galliera Street

  • Exceptional – Kathy from Canada – 8 June 2025 (10/10)

It was a nice change from staying in a hotel. The beds were extra comfy. Conveniently located in Bologna.

  • Great location and very comfortable apartment for our family of four with close by parking available outside the ZTL. Lo – Linda from United States – 26 May 2025 (10/10)

This property is great for a family of 4 stay in Bologna. Silva is a very responsive and helpful host, the location is fantastic with lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. Also can park outside the ZTL with a 3 min walk to the property for 24 euro per night. The apartment has all that you need and feels safe. The beds are super comfortable.

What could be improved: I agree with other reviews that the building is somewhat noisy especially the front bedroom as the people above were noisy on the Friday night we stayed but the Thursday and Saturday were not as loud with moving chair noise and talking. The security door slamming and people walking on the stairs were also noisy, but overall I would still recommend this apartment highly.

  • Perfect! – Tahlia from Australia – 23 May 2025 (10/10)

Perfect place to stay! The host was so so lovely and welcoming. She was so helpful! We loved our stay here and would 100% stay again!!

  • Excellent stay location and host – Charlotte from United Kingdom – 23 March 2025 (10/10)

A wonderful stay in this beautiful apartment, a perfect location walkable to everything in centre but also quiet at night and secure…and our host Sylwia went above and beyond to make our stay as excellent as possible. Thank you Sylwia 😊

What could be improved: Everything was great

  • Lovely accommodation that would be perfection without the noise disturbance – Karen from United Kingdom – 4 March 2025 (8/10)

Wonderful location, very comfortable beds, amazing facilities in all rooms, very warm and well decorated.

What could be improved: Very noisy at night – upstairs neighbour was noisy throughout the night: furniture moving, talking, shower running at 3am.We had to go and buy earplugs as sleep was impossible without. Not the fault of the homeowner, but could be a real issue if you are a light sleeper.

  • Superb – Jonathon from United States – 8 January 2025 (9/10)

    Great location and friendly host.

What could be improved: A bit chilly but it’s bologna in the winter so…

  • Cute modern apt in super location – Kristen from Norway – 11 November 2024 (10/10)

The location was excellent, between the train station and city center. We walked everywhere in town. There are lots of good restaurants and bakeries within a ten minute walk. The beds were super comfy and the apartment had everything we needed. The little elevator was good for my mother and for luggage.

What could be improved: I wish there was a little balcony or some kind of small outside area to enjoy the nice weather. If you are light sleeper, bring earplugs. It sounded like the people on the floor above have furniture moving as a hobby, but it's an old building and soundproofing is not great. I would still stay here again without hesitiation.

  • Great place to explore Bologna – Atanas from Germany – 26 September 2024 (10/10)

We liked the location very much. It has got everything you need for a short or a longer stay. We had a very warm welcome from Silvia including tips on where to go and what to do around the city.

What could be improved: As mentioned in the other comments, the area is a bit noisy and the walls a bit thin. During the night, however, it was quiet enough to sleep unbothered.

  • great place to stay – Kieran from United Kingdom – 5 September 2024 (9/10)

Great location within reasonable walking distance of most sights.
Good sized apartment with big bedrooms
    Air conditioning was a bonus
    kitchen well provisioned

What could be improved: don't expect a nice view ! it is in internal courtyards

  • perfect location! – Jennifer from United States – 12 June 2024 (10/10)

great location! plenty of space and so so clean and inviting.
