Dame 4 Overview

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first turned down Vicolo delle Dame – it’s this tiny alley you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it. But that’s exactly what makes Dame 4 so special. The entrance is tucked away from the main tourist shuffle, which means you get that authentic Bologna feeling without the crowds pressing up against your windows at 7 AM.

The building itself has this understated elegance that feels very Italian – not the over-the-top luxury you might expect from a 4-star place, but something more refined. I mean, the rooms are beautifully appointed with these gorgeous high ceilings and original details that remind you you’re staying in a historic city center, but everything feels lived-in rather than museum-like. The beds are actually comfortable (you know how hotel beds can be hit or miss), and the bathrooms have that perfect balance of modern fixtures with old-world charm. What really got me was the attention to small details – proper lighting for reading, enough outlets where you actually need them, and blackout curtains that, well, actually black out the room.

The location is pretty brilliant once you figure out the area. You’re about a three-minute walk from Via del Pratello, which locals will tell you is where the real nightlife happens – none of that touristy stuff near the towers. The morning market at Mercato delle Erbe is close enough that you can grab fresh produce and excellent coffee, and you’re still within easy walking distance of the main sights without being right in the thick of things. Parking can be tricky (it’s Bologna, after all), but the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you realistic advice about where to leave your car if you’re driving in. The 9.8 rating makes sense when you stay here – it’s not perfect, but the imperfections feel intentional rather than overlooked. There’s this relaxed professionalism to the service that feels authentically Italian rather than corporate hotel-trained. They’re not hovering, but when you need something, they actually know how to help rather than just directing you to a website or calling someone else. I’d honestly come back here, which is saying something because Bologna has no shortage of places to stay.

  Just awesome place. Very proper and clean.
  The hoste provided the basics in the kitchen, including coffee, oil, sugar… the basics that you would like to see. There was even dishwasher soap and washer soap for clothes. Very pleasant view, super quiet. I loved it.
  
  What could be improved: If you have luggage, it's in the fourth floor, with no elevator. The owner helped me which I really appreciate it.

  What could be improved: As it was an eco building, heaters can’t be turned on unless the temperature in the house was low enough. We sometimes found the temperature outside is warmer than in the house.

  Dame 4 is very comfortable and so interesting to look at! Lots of lovely objects. In a great location too. Near the centre but lovely little bars, restaurants and shops in the neighbourhood.
