Casa Temporanea Overview
You know what struck me first about Casa Temporanea? It’s one of those places where the name actually makes sense – this really does feel like a sophisticated temporary home rather than just another hotel room. I mean, San Donato isn’t exactly the historic center that everyone posts on Instagram, but honestly, that’s part of what I loved about staying here. You’re about a 15-minute bus ride from Piazza Maggiore, which sounds like a hassle until you realize you’re paying way less than those boutique places near the Due Torri and getting a much better night’s sleep. The neighborhood has this authentic residential vibe – there’s actually a fantastic little osteria called Da Nello just around the corner that I stumbled upon, and I’m pretty sure I was the only tourist in there.
The hotel itself has this clean, minimalist thing going on that could feel cold in the wrong hands, but they’ve managed to make it warm somehow. Maybe it’s the way the light hits those polished concrete floors in the lobby, or how the staff genuinely seems to remember your name after day two. Check-in was refreshingly smooth – none of that “your room isn’t ready yet” nonsense even though I showed up at noon. My room on the third floor had these huge windows that looked out over the quiet side street, and I loved how you could actually open them wide (you’d be surprised how many newer hotels have those stupid tilt-only windows). The bed was seriously comfortable – I’m talking about that perfect firmness where you sink in just enough but don’t feel like you’re being swallowed. There’s a small kitchenette that’s actually functional, not just for show, which came in handy when I grabbed fresh pasta and decent wine from the Conad down the street.
Here’s the thing about staying in San Donato – you get to see how Bologna actually works. In the morning, you’ll hear the neighborhood waking up: kids heading to school, the coffee machine firing up at the bar across the street, delivery trucks doing their thing. It’s real life, not tourist theater. The hotel’s location on Via Caduti Della Via Fani might sound intimidating to pronounce, but it’s actually perfectly positioned. You’re close enough to the train station that you don’t need a taxi, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with all that transit chaos. Plus, the bus connections into town are frequent and reliable – something I appreciated after a long day wandering around the Quadrilatero market area. If you’re looking for a place that feels genuine and gives you room to breathe without sacrificing comfort, Casa Temporanea delivers. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bologna, but it might just be one of the smartest choices you can make.

Reviews of Casa Temporanea
Great stay – Emma from Germany – 4 May 2025 (9/10)
Everything was very great. The check in the experience in the communication before our stay were really good. The apartment itself is very well maintained, it was very clean and had everything we needed. The location is not inside the inner city walls, we knew this, and this wasn't a problem, but this is just something good to know.
What could be improved: Honestly, there was nothing we disliked. We really enjoyed our stay, and would come back anytime we are in Bologna again.Great stay – Ana from Slovenia – 19 December 2024 (9/10)
Great room with everything I needed and even more, from washing machine to dishwasher and microwave. Having a balcony was great. And the garage is worth the money as finding a parking on the street can be a bit tricky. There is a big park in front od the building, great for walking the dogs.
What could be improved: A bit outdated decor, but it didn’t bother me.Awesome place for a weekend stay in bologna will return! – Merlin from Germany – 11 December 2024 (9/10)
Very nice little apartments with all the kitchen utilities you need and a generous amount of space.
Good value and perfect location for the Fiera di Bologna! – Jonathan from United States – 6 December 2024 (9/10)
Great place to stay near the Fiera di Bologna. Came for the classic car show and it was a bit busy in the area but this was a good value and most importantly has a secure parking garage under the building. Convenient place in a bit of an industrial area, but a relatively easy bus ride to the center. Clean room and well appointed, with no frills. I think this is normally a bit of an extended stay hotel that had and opening, but definitely meets the need for the Fiera!
Wining location if you visit Fira Bologna – Arnon from Israel – 10 November 2024 (8/10)
Clean, warm, good location – 5 min from Fira
Good coffee shop, coop, restaurant nearby
Parking too
What could be improved: Bed mattress can be better but it’s subjectiveExcellent apartment with kitchen a short bus ride from the city centre – Lee from United Kingdom – 2 August 2024 (9/10)
A nice apartment with a kitchen.
Large Coop supermarket 5 minutes walk, means you can make your own meals and save a lot of money.
Shower and TV etc all worked fine.
Lots of windows to let air in.
Air conditioning worked fine. Nice and cool.
Helpful, friendly staff. No problem booking in.
There is a number 28 bus-stop right outside the hotel. It will take you to VIA IRNERIO (5 mins walk from train station and main town area) Also, you can walk from the train station in about 25 minutes. The buses are every 10 minutes but be warned there are ticket inspectors. You can use your UK/EU bank card on the train (£1.30) but only one card can be used per passenger. Yes, one card per passenger! So make sure you have two (different) bank if there are two people!
What could be improved: It needs a kettle! (a simple £10 item!)Comfortable for Bologna congress and site seeing – Eleni from Greece – 17 June 2024 (8/10)
Wonderful location with a bus stop right outside the Casa!!!!! All the necessary facilities near by ( cafe pizza supermarket pharmacy)
What could be improved: Only one night the upstairs neighbors were awful after midnight……… but this is not the Casa’s fault……Very good – Michael from Malta – 23 May 2024 (8/10)
Helpful and friendly staff, convenient location
What could be improved: The accommodation was well equipped with all utensils provided to cook up a big meal, however it would have been nice to have a minimal amount of coffee or tea (sachet or teabags)provided in the apartment for a late arrival as most supermarkets where closed.Good stay, I’d go back again 🙂 – Martina from Slovakia – 9 April 2024 (9/10)
Very nice apartment, clean, comfy beds, great communication 🙂
What could be improved: –Very good – Yiu from Hong Kong – 2 December 2023 (8/10)
I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel, primarily because of the well-equipped kitchen. The presence of various utensils and a refrigerator was a great convenience, especially during the cold weather. It allowed me to easily boil water for hot drinks and even prepare meals if I desired.
