You know what caught me off guard about Sphera Bologna? It’s tucked away in this little gallery space that you’d probably walk past three times before noticing – but honestly, that’s part of its charm. The location is absolutely genius if you know Bologna at all. You’re literally steps from the Two Towers (hence the name), which means you can stumble out for an espresso and find yourself in the heart of the medieval city center before you’re even fully awake.

The design suite concept actually works here, which surprised me because sometimes these “design hotels” try too hard and end up feeling cold. But the space has this warm, almost cocoon-like quality – probably because it used to be part of a historic building and they’ve done something clever with the original architecture. The rooms have these spherical elements (get it, Sphera?) that could’ve been gimmicky but instead create these intimate little nooks. I mean, you’re not getting a massive American-style room, but the way they’ve used the space makes it feel larger than it is. The lighting is particularly well thought out – soft and moody in the evening, but bright enough to actually read by.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays, even though you’re right in the thick of things. Via dell’Indipendenza is just around the corner, so you’ve got all the shopping and restaurants you could want, but the Galleria Acquaderni location keeps you away from the tourist crowds that cluster around Piazza Maggiore. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – they sent me to this tiny osteria on Via del Pratello that I never would’ve found otherwise, and it ended up being one of those perfect Bologna experiences with hand-rolled tortellini and local wine. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM because the reception area is small and gets backed up if there’s any overlap with checkout. Also, just so you know, parking isn’t directly on-site, but they’ve got arrangements with a garage about a five-minute walk away – not ideal if you’re hauling heavy luggage, but totally manageable for most people. The 9.4 rating makes sense once you’re there; it’s one of those places that gets the details right without making a big show of it.

  Beautiful modern apartment with all that we needed (kettle, coffee machine, hob, microwave, washing machine & dryer, and comfortable bed). In a great location to walk to sights and restaurants. Aircon worked very well, and the drinks in the fridge were a treat. Yes, there is a bit of noise at night from the street below, but we travel with earplugs (and earplugs were provided). Check in process was easy. We loved our time here and would come back again.

  The apartment was in an amazing location near the two towers, perfect for exploring Bologna. It was spotlessly clean, very modern and well equipped. Communication was very good from the minute we booked and we were able to check in early which was great. We really didn’t want to come home!
