Bologna Centrale 2 Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw Bologna Centrale 2 sitting right there on Viale Pietro Pietramellara, I thought it might be one of those generic station hotels that’s all about convenience and nothing else. But you know what? I was completely wrong about this place.

The thing is, being literally across from Bologna Centrale station could be a nightmare with all that foot traffic and train noise, but somehow they’ve managed to make it work in their favor. Yes, you can roll out of bed and catch the 7:15 to Florence if you want, but the rooms are surprisingly quiet – I mean, I was expecting to hear announcements all night, but honestly? The soundproofing is solid. What really got me though was how they’ve embraced the whole transport hub thing without making it feel like you’re sleeping in an airport. The lobby has this warm, actually welcoming vibe with local touches that remind you you’re in Emilia-Romagna, not some international chain bubble.

Here’s what matters if you’re actually staying here: the staff genuinely knows Bologna, not just the tourist highlights. When I asked about where to grab mortadella that wasn’t overpriced tourist stuff, the guy at reception walked me to a little map and marked this place on Via Drapperie that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms themselves are clean and well-thought-out – nothing fancy, but the beds are proper comfortable and there’s enough space to actually unpack without playing Tetris with your suitcase. The bathroom situation is solid too, good water pressure and those little toiletries that don’t smell like industrial cleaner.

What surprised me most was the breakfast setup. I expected continental mediocrity, but they’ve got local pastries and decent coffee – not quite bar-quality espresso, but way better than most hotel attempts. And here’s a practical thing nobody mentions: if you’re doing day trips to Modena or Parma, this location is actually perfect because you can store your main luggage and just hop on regional trains with a small bag.

The area around the hotel is sort of in transition – there’s construction happening as they renovate the whole station district, so it’s a bit dusty during the day, but it’s also exciting to see Bologna modernizing while keeping its character. You’re a five-minute walk from the medieval center, but honestly, some of my favorite meals were at the little family places tucked between the hotel and the station that locals hit up between trains. There’s this osteria called Dal Biassanot that does incredible tortellini in brodo – just saying.

The only real downside? Weekend nights can get a bit lively with people coming and going, but that’s the trade-off for being so connected to everything. If you’re someone who needs absolute silence, maybe request a room facing away from the main street. But for most people, especially if you’re using Bologna as a base to explore the region or just want to be able to walk everywhere in the historic center, this place hits that sweet spot of being genuinely useful without sacrificing comfort.

  • Very practical and comfortable stay near the Bologna train station – Thaïs from France – 16 July 2025 (10/10)

Very practical (near the train station). Very precise instructions. The room was neat, big and practical.

The interlocutor was very nice and arranging concerning our check out time and luggage deposit. We had a wonderful time thanks to that.

What could be improved: Nothing not to like

Elegant room near the train station. It was very comfortable and taking a shower at the end of the day was amazing.
Perfect place for a quick in-and-out in the city (it's a 20-minute walk from the city center).

What could be improved: Everything was fine. Nothing to complain about. The opening of the apartment door needs a bit of practice, but no worries.

New and minimal design. Nice and spacious bathroom. Walking distance to the center and areas of interest or a very short and easy bus ride. Very helpful staff.

What could be improved: A second litter box in the room, aside the one from the bathroom, would be useful.
