La Perla del Centro Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to La Perla del Centro on Via Mirasole – I mean, the street’s pretty narrow and you might actually walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes this place special. It’s tucked away in this quiet corner of Bologna’s centro storico, just close enough to all the action but far enough that you’re not dealing with the crowds stumbling back from the bars at 2 AM.
The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about this place. The lobby has that warm, lived-in feeling – not like those sterile chain hotels where everything’s beige and forgettable. The staff here genuinely know the neighborhood, which is huge when you’re trying to figure out where to grab the best tortellini without paying tourist prices. They pointed me toward this little osteria about three blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms themselves are well… they’re not massive, but honestly, who spends their time in Bologna sitting in a hotel room? What matters is that the beds are actually comfortable (I’m talking real sleep, not that tossing-and-turning nonsense), and the bathrooms have proper water pressure – something you can’t take for granted in these old buildings.
What really sold me on this place is the location situation. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but here’s the thing – you can also walk to the university area just as easily, which means you get the real Bologna experience. I’d wake up, grab a cappuccino from the bar downstairs (they make it properly, none of that milky tourist stuff), and I could be wandering through the Quadrilatero market or checking out the leaning towers before the tour groups even figured out where they were going. The 9.2 rating makes total sense when you stay here – it’s not trying to be fancy or Instagram-perfect, it’s just… right. The kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Bologna, not just visiting it. Sure, parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving, but that’s true everywhere in the historic center, and they’ll help you figure out the nearest garage. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra night because I wasn’t ready to leave – and trust me, that doesn’t happen often.

Superb – Karolina from Poland – 7 April 2025 (9/10)
We had a really good stay. It was really to contact the owner. The apartament was clean and cozy, quite centrally located. The area felt safe and was quiet.
Highly recommend – Nikos from Greece – 18 October 2024 (10/10)
Quiet location 10 minutes by walk from piazza Maggiore . The room was very clean, and the host was very helpful, providing us with snacks and water in the room when we arrived, as well as allowing us to do a late check-out. Highly recommended
What could be improved: It is on the third floor of an old apartment building with narrow stairs and no elevator .Perfect for singles and couples – Linda from Australia – 24 September 2024 (9/10)
The apartment was very clean, tidy and had everything that you would want. Communication with the owner was great. The apartment was a 10 – 15 min walk from the centre of the city. Bus stop 3 mins away. Convenience store, bank and bar (coffee shop) around the corner
What could be improved: The apartment was on the top floor without a lift. Don't bring heavy luggage as it would be a struggle. It would not be a problem for the young and agile. One of the best places we stayed in – Joekey from Lebanon – 18 September 2024 (10/10)
The house is AMAZING. BEAUTIFUL! Neat, clean, serene. The neighborhood is great, 10 minutes walking distance from the center. The host is super helpful, and she was kind enough to leave us some snacks. THANK YOU – I cannot recommend it enough
What could be improved: nothingGreat stay in Bologna – Robert from Ireland – 31 July 2024 (10/10)
Owners were very kind and greeted us on arrival. Apartment was lovely and given complimentary wine and snacks.
What could be improved: Steep stairs which were fine for us but could be difficult for other people.Superb – Yevgeniya from Italy – 17 July 2024 (9/10)
The apartment had everything you need. Coffee, olive oil, water were very much helpful to have when you are staying in such place. There are a lot of stairs though, but it is normal for Italy in historical parts. The host is very helpful.
What could be improved: NothingLovely & quiet apartment in a nice area of Bologna – Daniel from United Kingdom – 7 July 2024 (9/10)
Spacious apartment, with great facilities and lots of lovely finishing touches and attention to detail. The host gave us a lovely welcome too, and we very much appreciated the wine and snacks she had arranged for us! Very quiet and lovely area as well.
What could be improved: The apartment is on the top floor of a 4-story building with no elevator. It was okay for us, but could be an issue for someone with kids, or a physical disability.Exceptional – N from Germany – 3 April 2024 (10/10)
