Casa Rame Overview
So here’s the thing about Casa Rame – I almost walked right past it the first time because it sits so quietly on Via Caldarese, which honestly is exactly what you want when you’re staying in Bologna. You know how some hotels try to announce themselves with giant signs? This one doesn’t need to. The building itself has this understated elegance that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something the tour groups haven’t figured out yet.
The location is actually brilliant, and I mean that in the most practical sense. You’re basically tucked into this residential pocket that feels authentically Bolognese – there’s a little alimentari around the corner where the owner will slice your prosciutto paper-thin while chatting about the weather, and you can walk to Piazza Maggiore in maybe fifteen minutes without fighting crowds the whole way. The room I stayed in (third floor, overlooking the quiet courtyard) had these beautiful hardwood floors that creaked just slightly when you walked barefoot – the kind of detail that reminds you you’re in a building with actual history, not some cookie-cutter chain. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious too, with one of those rain showers that actually works properly, which… well, anyone who’s traveled in Italy knows that’s not always a given.
What really struck me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about getting the details right. Check-in was smooth – no standing around waiting while they fumbled with the system – and they had this stack of local restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this little osteria about three blocks away where I ended up having the best tortellini in brodo of my entire trip. The breakfast setup was thoughtful too, not elaborate but really well-executed Italian basics: proper cappuccino, fresh cornetti, local honey. They serve it in this bright room that catches the morning light beautifully, and honestly, starting your day there just puts you in the right mood for wandering Bologna’s porticoed streets. The only minor thing – and this is really minor – is that the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty on the upper floors, but honestly, when you’re in a city this gorgeous, maybe that’s not such a bad thing.

What could be improved: The house is quite small, but perfect for one persone/a couple. We loved the convenient location, the comfort and facilities and the assistance of Paolo with his generosity. Highly rec – Stephen from Australia – 3 July 2025 (9/10)
Location is great for easy access to Maggiore and Santo Stephano, with a straight through walk to either. The area is also quiet and has good lift access. Good size living room and separate bedroom and bathroom. Shower is good and there is a really good washing machine. The kitchen facilities are fine and everything was clean and well maintained. Top marks to Paolo owner/manager of this apartment.
My daughter and I stayed for 3 nights. The owners have optimised the space amazingly well. There’s everything you need, – Lee from United Kingdom – 1 June 2025 (10/10)

Perfectly situated near everything but quiet and welcoming. The apartment is expertly designed and beautifully renovated in a lovely building. While compact it didn’t lack space or comfort, and the host was responsive and kind. The local recommendations guide he personally created is so good and on target, it became our go-to!
Wonderful short stay in a beautiful apartment. – Paul from Australia – 18 October 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: No ironExcellent, Highly recommended – Lynne from United Kingdom – 25 September 2024 (10/10)
We had a brilliant time at Casa Rame, the accommodation was 1ST CLASS, very stylish and modern furniture still with old beams and wooden ceiling. The location was just over 100m from Due Torre but in a side street so central but not noisy. Everything was provided down to an excellent booklet detailing local restaurants etc to visit.( We managed to get a table at Trattoria Dame, was a fantastic meal worthy of their Michelin star, with helpful and friendly staff.)
We will definitely return to Bologna and would stay at Casa Rame if at all possible, we can't recommend this enough.
What could be improved: Didn't have an iron /ironing board.Exceptional – Gabrielle from Australia – 7 August 2024 (10/10)

What could be improved: The air conditioning units were a challenge to figure out, without instructions

Excellent location, comfortable bed, very clean
What could be improved: Compact bedroom but fine for a long weekend, would have liked to have been allowed to use the aircon
