Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Appartamenti Tommasini on Via Giacomo Tommasini, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked into this narrow street that most tourists probably walk right past, just a few blocks from the main action around Piazza Maggiore. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes it work.

The building itself has that weathered Bologna charm – you know, the kind where the shutters have seen better days but somehow that just adds character. What actually surprised me was how quiet it gets at night, considering you’re basically in the heart of the city. I mean, during the day you’ll hear the occasional Vespa puttering by and locals chatting in the street below, but it’s not the chaos you’d expect from a central Bologna location. The apartments themselves are bigger than most hotel rooms you’ll find in the historic center – actually spacious enough that you’re not tripping over your suitcase every time you want to grab something from the kitchenette. And speaking of the kitchenette, it’s properly equipped, not just some sad mini-fridge situation. I ended up cooking breakfast a few times using ingredients from the little market on Via del Pratello (maybe a 7-minute walk?), which honestly made the whole stay feel less touristy.

The real win here is the location without the location premium, if that makes sense. You’re close enough to walk to San Petronio in about 10 minutes, but you’re also right near some of the side streets where actual Bolognese people eat and shop. There’s this tiny osteria around the corner – I can’t remember the name, but it’s the one with the handwritten menu taped to the window – where I had some of the best tortellini of my trip. The staff at Tommasini actually gave me directions there, which tells you something about how they think about hospitality. They’re not trying to push you toward tourist traps. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no hovering, no hard sell about upgrades, just “here’s your key, here’s how the heating works, call if you need anything.” The kind of low-key service that actually works better than all the fancy concierge stuff when you just want to settle in and explore the city at your own pace. Only minor complaint would be that the WiFi gets a bit spotty in the evenings (probably everyone streaming at once), but honestly, that forced me to actually go out and wander Bologna’s streets instead of doom-scrolling in bed, so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise.

  WE WERE TRAVELLING FOR CERSAIE EXHIBITION.
  THE LOCATION WAS 30 MINUTES WALK FROM THE OLD CITY
  PATRIZIA IS VERY KIND AND WAS TRYING TO HELP US TO GET A TAXI,WHICH IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND ONE
  DURING THE CERSAIE EXHIBITION.
  BUT GLADLY HER SON TOOK US TO THE TRAIN STATION.
  THE AREA IS QUIET AND VERY CLOSE TO THE PARK.

  Perfect location with a lovely walk through the local
  Park into the old town. Gorgeous apartment with all the facilities and a very comfortable bed and pillows. Lovely hosts and a very cute dog. Parking was so easy and great that it was free, just needed a pass in the car which was provided by Patrizia, the host. It was so nice to stay in a residential area, such a lovely location. We loved our stay and will absolutely be back!
  
  What could be improved: Only negative is the stairs with a large suitcase but wouldn’t put us off, just be prepared.

  I liked the apartment. It is a cool place with friendly staff. The facilities were amazing, big rooms with good internet connection. Its quietness is why you choose this place as one of the best places for someone who needs to concentrate.

  The apartment was exceptional, in a beautiful location surrounded by lovely homes and mature trees. It was a 15-20 minute walk to the old city with much to look at along the way. We had a wonderful meal at O Sole Mio Trattoria, the best bolognese sauce of our trip, surrounded by locals in a family run eatery. The apartment is extremely clean, quiet and well equipped. We would love to return. Added bonus was a grocery store nearby.

  Location was lovely next to a park, and a very short work into the city Centre. The apartment was very nice and plenty of space with lovely vistas out the windows through the trees. The host provided me with a parking permit for the area which was great.
