You know what struck me first about Carracci 29? It’s actually on the first floor of this beautiful old building, and when you walk up those Italian stairs – the kind with worn marble steps that have seen decades of footsteps – you immediately get that “this is the real Bologna” feeling. The address puts you right in the university quarter, which honestly is where you want to be anyway. You’re close enough to Via Zamboni that you can hear the gentle hum of student life, but far enough that you’re not dealing with late-night noise.

The thing about this place is that it gets the balance just right. I mean, it’s got that 4-star polish without feeling stuffy or trying too hard to impress. The rooms have this understated elegance – think clean lines, quality linens, and those little touches that show someone actually thought about what travelers need. The bathroom situation is solid (always a concern in older Italian buildings), and the air conditioning works properly, which you’ll appreciate if you’re visiting during Bologna’s sticky summer months. What really won me over, though, was how the staff genuinely knows the neighborhood. They’ll tell you about the little osteria around the corner that doesn’t show up in guidebooks, or which direction to walk to hit the morning market at Mercato delle Erbe – actually about a 10-minute stroll through some lovely side streets.

Bologna’s city center is completely walkable from here, and you’re positioned perfectly to explore both the historic core and the more lived-in university area. The two towers? Easy 15-minute walk. Piazza Maggiore? Maybe 12 minutes if you take the direct route through Via Ugo Bassi. But here’s the thing locals know – the real magic happens in this immediate neighborhood. You’ve got authentic trattorias where professors grab lunch, bookshops that stay open late, and that particular rhythm of a university town that’s been doing its thing for nearly a thousand years. The 9.3 rating honestly makes sense when you stay here – it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but it nails the fundamentals while giving you that authentic Bologna experience. Plus, if you’re driving, parking in this area is actually manageable compared to some parts of the historic center, though I’d still recommend checking with them about the best spots since the ZTL zones can be tricky for visitors.

  I had an absolutely wonderful experience during my stay. The property was clean, modern, and exactly as described. The host was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. The location was ideal — close to everything I needed, but still peaceful and quiet at night. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and all the amenities were top-notch. I especially appreciated the attention to detail and how smooth the check-in/check-out process was. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay!

  The location was perfect for day trips via train as it was next to the station. A nice big apartment with everything you need in the kitchen and a washing machine too. The owner was very helpful and met us on arrival.
  
  What could be improved: The Carbon Monoxide alarm went off a few times whilst we were there. We were assured it was a malfunction but it did make us a little nervous. On the whole, the apartment was clean but the floors maybe needed a deep clean (as our daughter’s feet were quite dirty after walking around bare footed). It was a shame there wasn’t a sitting area or lounge but it didn’t matter too much to us as we only used the apartment as a base.

  L’emplacement par rapport à la gare car devions prendre un train très tôt le jour du départ.
  Le terminus du Marconi express est au pied de l’immeuble.

  This apartment was very conveniently located directly opposite the Bologna Centrale station (great for day trips), was spacious, well appointed with essentials and very comfortable.
  
  What could be improved: The only drawback was a smaller than usual shower cubicle, which also had nowhere (other than the shower floor) to place toiletries (eg shampoo and soap).
