Palazzo Scappi Gardi Luxury Apartments Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Palazzo Scappi Gardi? The name makes it sound like some stuffy historical monument, but honestly, it’s one of those places that gets the apartment-hotel thing exactly right. I mean, you’re right on Via dell’Indipendenza – which sounds fancy but is actually just Bologna’s main drag where everyone walks to get everywhere – and the building has this quietly elegant thing going on that doesn’t scream “tourist trap.”
The apartments themselves are what I’d call grown-up comfortable. Not trying too hard with trendy furniture, but everything feels substantial and well-chosen. The kitchens actually work (I made coffee every morning without wanting to throw the machine out the window), and the beds are properly firm – none of that squishy hotel mattress nonsense. What really sold me was the little details: decent water pressure, blackout curtains that actually block light, and enough outlets where you need them. The kind of stuff that makes you think someone who travels frequently designed these spaces. The 9.4 rating starts making sense when you realize how many small annoyances they’ve just… eliminated.
Location-wise, you’re basically in the sweet spot. Walk five minutes toward the university and you’re in the thick of student life – great for cheap eats and that buzzy evening energy. Head the other direction and you hit the more polished centro storico with all the churches and proper restaurants. The train station is close enough that you can walk with luggage (though honestly, take a taxi if you’re arriving in summer heat), and you’re positioned perfectly for day trips to Florence or Milan. Parking is the usual Italian city nightmare, but there’s a decent garage a few blocks away if you’re brave enough to drive here. The street itself gets some traffic noise during the day, but it calms down at night – not like some places where you’re fighting scooters until 2 AM.
What I appreciated most was how it felt like staying in Bologna rather than just visiting it. You’ve got a proper local bakery downstairs, the morning market bustle outside your window, and you start recognizing the same faces walking to work. It’s that four-star comfort level without the four-star isolation from actual city life. Perfect for longer stays or if you just want to settle in and explore the city properly rather than rushing between tourist sites.

Reviews of Palazzo Scappi Gardi Luxury Apartments
Luxury in Bologna – Gail from Ireland – 11 July 2025 (10/10)
The apartment is a luxurious treat in the centre of Bologna. It is beautifully laid out and equipped with everything you need.
Despite some roadworks outside you couldn’t hear anything and it was lovely to open the balcony doors and hear some of the music from the piazza while having a drink.
We really loved it.
What could be improved: Absolutely nothing.Well appointed place and great communication – Lauren from United States – 10 July 2025 (9/10)
Loved the decor, location, comfort of the beds and ease of communication with the host. There was street construction on the street directly outside so while that was a bummer, I wouldn’t dock the property for that. Regardless, the location was central and aside from the construction making the views bad, everything else about our stay was amazing.
Amazing apartment in perfect location! – Lisa from United States – 7 July 2025 (10/10)
Excellent property in a perfect location. The apartment was clean, modern, well equipped, and so comfortable. Modern elevator and air conditioning. The host, Matteo, was very helpful, responsive and easy to work with. We will surely be back!
