Broccaindosso Wood Apartments 5* Overview

First Impressions

Walking up Via Broccaindosso, you’ll spot Broccaindosso Wood Apartments 5* tucked into one of Bologna‘s most charming residential streets. The name might suggest five stars, but this is actually a solid four-star property — and honestly, that works in its favor. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the place that feels more authentic than some of the flashier options downtown. The building itself has that classic Bolognese character, with warm terracotta facades that blend seamlessly into the neighborhood.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re genuinely in the heart of everything without being stuck on a tourist-heavy street. The location score of 8.6 isn’t just marketing fluff; you can walk to Piazza Maggiore in about eight minutes, but you’re also surrounded by the kind of local trattorias and wine bars that Bolognesi actually frequent. Via del Pratello, one of the city’s best nightlife streets, is practically around the corner. Couples seem to get this — they consistently rate the location 8.5, and I can see why. It’s intimate enough for romantic evening strolls but central enough that you won’t waste time getting anywhere.

The Apartment Experience

These aren’t hotel rooms in the traditional sense — each apartment feels like you’re staying in someone’s thoughtfully designed Bologna home. The wood elements (hence the name, I suppose) create this cozy, lived-in atmosphere that’s hard to find in standard hotels. Most units come with a proper kitchen, which is brilliant if you want to grab fresh pasta from the local markets and actually cook it properly. The spaces feel generous too — you’re not bumping into furniture every time you turn around, which is more than I can say for some places in this price range.

Neighborhood Rhythms

What really struck me about staying here is how quickly you fall into the local rhythm. Morning espresso at the corner bar becomes routine, evening aperitivo at nearby Osteria del Sole feels natural, and you start recognizing the same faces on your daily walks. The street itself is quiet enough for proper sleep — no late-night tour groups stumbling past your window — but you’re still close enough to hear the gentle hum of Bologna’s social life. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like a temporary resident rather than an obvious tourist.

Why Guests Keep Coming Back

The 7.7 rating tells the real story here — this isn’t perfection, but it’s the kind of place that grows on you. The staff seems to understand that travelers want independence mixed with helpful local knowledge, and they strike that balance well. You know what really works? The fact that you can grocery shop at Mercato delle Erbe, cook dinner in your own space, then walk five minutes to some of the best bars in the city. It’s Bologna living, not just Bologna visiting, and that’s increasingly rare to find in such a central location.

Hotels near me in Bologna deliver quick strolls to Piazza Maggiore concerts, portico-shaded bookstores, and artisan gelato counters.

Reviews of Broccaindosso Wood Apartments 5*

  • modern apartment near the center – Tomas from Czech Republic – 19 June 2025 (7/10)

very tastefully furnished apartment within walking distance of the center; modern furniture, comfortable beds, spacious terrace, functional air conditioning

What could be improved: Unfortunately, both bedrooms are located in the basement (cellar), which affects the humidity of the rooms, which was felt in the air along with a mix of mold.

  • Quiet and convenient apartment for exploring the centre of Bologna. Basic amenities but clean! – Simon from United Kingdom – 22 May 2025 (6/10)

Clean and modern apartment, good sized space for a couple using the apartment as a base, nice and quiet location and convenient for access into central town. Comfortable bed and a nice little patio for catching some sun or having morning tea / coffee. Decent power shower and clean bathroom. Modern furniture and finishes.

What could be improved: Pictures in the advert were not a proper representation of the apartment we got. It was a lot smaller than the pictures suggested. There were two sets of photographs used in the advert – one larger apartment (next door) and a smaller one. We got the smaller apartment. The apartment had very basic amenities. There were no cereal / breakfast bowls, no knives (other than cutting knives), only x2 toilet roll on arrival (we had to buy more), no coffee capsules (as advertised), no tea towel (drying towel for kitchen) and the crockery was not all clean. Limited number of clothes hangers in the wardrobe.

  • Da rifare – Pastore from Italy – 10 May 2025 (9/10)

  • A big disappointment – Renee from Canada – 25 December 2024 (4/10)

It is very spacious for a 1 bedroom studio. Washing machine, dishwasher, full-size fridge.

What could be improved: It's incredibly dark. No choice but to leave the window coverings closed because the apartment is on the ground floor. The hallway to the apartment smelled of pot. This apartment shares an entrance with another apartment and the sound quality was poor, I could hear them coming and going, conversations (which were heated at times). The apartment was surface cleaned only, the sofa had several stains on it making it unusable. As a solo female traveller, I didn't feel safe. There was an issue with check-in and communication with the host was not the smoothest. The wifi was awful, could not get a connection in most places in the apartment.

  • Passable – Catalina from Romania – 24 September 2024 (5/10)

What could be improved: The appartment is old and has humidity problems. It is not ok to sleep in rooms that smell like mold. Also the towels smelled bad.

  • Very good – Sigitas from Lithuania – 17 July 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: The air conditioner did not work.

  • Lovely apartment in a great location but air conditioning needs sorting out – Elizabeth from United Kingdom – 27 June 2024 (7/10)

The property is beautifully renovated and in a great location within the city walls, short walk into the centre and near the university district, short walk to Piazza Santo Stefano etc. There are a few restaurants along the road so it felt safe, even coming back later in the evening. The apartments are located on the ground floor at the back of the building with a quiet courtyard. So was quiet despite being relatively central. The bed was really firm/comfortable, the shower was powerful, there were handy extras like washing machine/dishwasher tabs, an iron, a hairdryer, some salt, oil for cooking etc.(could do with a tray to put things in the oven). Comfortable sofa (we didn't need to convert to a sofa bed for our stay).

What could be improved: It was a really hot week (30-35 degrees) and the air conditioning wasn't working/wasn't powerful enough. The temperature on the internal thermometer never went below 26 degrees, so it was uncomfortable, particularly overnight. We didn't want to leave the windows open being on the ground floor. The air con was one of the principle reasons we'd booked this apartment so hopefully it will be serviced and working properly for future visitors.
I had missed the messages with arrival info and relied on the 'check-in info' on the app but this was a pin which wasn't relevant to the property and the phone number given connected me with someone no longer managing the property. This person did give me the right number , and I then got a quick response to help, but it did make arrival a bit stressful wondering what was going on. (It was my fault, as there was great info in the messages, even a video with what to do, which I had missed. Just be sure to look at messages not rely on what's written under 'check-in'! And hopefully the telephone number has now been updated.

  • A cosy space in the center of Bologna, comfortable and very well priced. – Livia from Malta – 24 May 2024 (8/10)

Very spacious and had a lot of natural light. The location was secure and the owner was very helpful and responsive. The price was very decent and we could check in late at night.

What could be improved: The sofabed was not prepared and we needed to set it up ourselves. The space was not as clean as we would have liked, specifically the floors and shower drain

  • Superb – Philip from United Kingdom – 13 March 2024 (9/10)

The apartment has been tastefully renovated and was comfortable and well equipped. It is very well situated on a quiet street with restaurants nearby.

What could be improved: Not a big deal but the sofa cushions kept on slipping off when you sat on them.

  • Amazing – Faysal from United Arab Emirates – 6 February 2024 (10/10)

    Great

    What could be improved: None
