You know what struck me first about Borgonuovo Apartments? The address itself tells you everything – Via Borgonuovo literally means “new borough,” but this narrow cobblestone street feels like it hasn’t changed much since medieval times. I mean, you’re basically staying in the heart of Bologna’s historic center, where the buildings lean into each other like old friends sharing secrets.

The apartments themselves are honestly pretty impressive for a 4-star place. These aren’t your typical hotel rooms – they’re actual apartments with real kitchens (not those sad little kitchenettes), and the owners clearly put thought into the details. The exposed brick walls and wooden beams aren’t just for show; they’re the real deal from when this building was probably someone’s palazzo centuries ago. What I loved most was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re literally steps from Via del Pratello, which is where all the university students hang out. The walls are thick enough that you get the best of both worlds – you can stumble home from aperitivo at Osteria del Sole in about three minutes, but you’ll actually sleep through the night.

The location is actually kind of perfect if you know Bologna at all. You’re a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but more importantly, you’re right in the middle of what locals call the university quarter. There’s this little enoteca called Divino Perbacco just around the corner that most tourists never find – the kind of place where they’ll let you taste three different Lambruscos before you decide. And honestly, having a proper kitchen means you can hit the Mercato delle Erbe in the morning for fresh pasta and actually cook it properly instead of settling for tourist-trap restaurants every night. The 9.5 rating makes sense when you realize it’s not just about the apartment itself – it’s about how the whole setup lets you live like a Bolognese for a week instead of just visiting. Just a heads up though: the street can be a bit tricky to find the first time (GPS gets confused by all the narrow medieval streets), and there’s no elevator, so maybe pack light if you’re on the upper floors.

  I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful apartment! It is impeccably clean, and the location couldn't be better – right in the heart of Bologna. The apartment itself is stunning, with a tasteful vintage charm that makes it feel warm and inviting. As a Genius Level 3 user on Booking, I highly recomand this apartment.

  Our host was so efficient, and she made it easy to find the location and how to access the apartment. She sent directions and even a video of how to unlock the apartment via the what's up app and was extremely responsive if I had any questions. The location was absolutely perfect in the heart of the city and in a safe part of town. Security lock/code on the door. We were able to drop our bags early and tour the city while housekeeping finished the apartment. She provided a list of things to do in Bologna as well as restaurant recommendations. She even left a wonderful bottle of wine in the Refrigerator for us. It was very hot in Italy, but the apartment was cool with air conditioning which was a must! My only wish is that we would have stayed longer as the apartments were perfect with kitchens, big bathrooms and bedrooms.
  
  What could be improved: Everything was perfect! Just know you do have to go up one floor of a winding staircase, so large suitcases are harder than a carry on.

  We recently had the pleasure of staying at Borgonuovo Apartments, and we couldn't be more impressed. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded my expectations. The Apartment as spotless, beautifully furnished, and equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay The location was prefect, close to restaurants and the city center. What really stood out was the hospitality of the owner, going above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay. They responded quickly to any questions. Overall, we would highly recommend Borgonuovo Apartments to anyone looking for a relaxing/clean/convenient place to stay in Bologna. We will be definitely return in the future. 5 Stars from us

  The apartment was updated with a modern bathroom. The property was very secure and a short walk to the main plaza in old town. It was well stocked with everything you would need.

  Everything was perfect, and I mean everything. I have been lucky enough to stay in a lot of apartments in Italy (around 30) and this is in my top 3. All of the facilities are great, the decoration is lovely, but it's the small attention to detail that makes this a 10. Things like putting the bottle of water in the fridge rather than hot on the side, having an ice tray ready etc. These things make a massive difference when you have been walking through 30 degree heat…
  
  To add to that, the hostess was lovely! A very nice person with great recommendations of places to eat/drink and things to do in Bologna. We massively enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back!
