Montebello House Bologna Overview
You know what struck me first about Montebello House? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet little street that feels worlds apart from the tourist chaos around Piazza Maggiore, but you’re literally a five-minute walk from everything that matters in Bologna. I mean, you step out the door and you’re practically breathing the same air as the medieval towers – okay, maybe I’m being dramatic, but the location really is something special.
The building itself has this understated elegance that Bologna does so well. It’s not trying to be flashy or Instagram-perfect, but there’s real character in the bones of the place. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully designed – someone clearly understood that travelers want space to actually unpack and move around, not just crash for the night. The bathrooms are proper-sized too, which honestly matters more than you think after a day of wandering those gorgeous but exhausting porticos. And speaking of those porticos, you can actually see glimpses of them from some of the upper floor windows, which gave me this little thrill every morning with my coffee.
What really won me over though was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their city. When I asked about where locals actually eat (because let’s be honest, the spots right around the university can be hit or miss), they didn’t just hand me a generic list. They told me about this osteria about ten minutes away where the ragu is legitimately life-changing, and they were right. The neighborhood itself comes alive in the evenings – you’ll hear students chatting as they head to aperitivo, maybe some street music drifting up from Via del Pratello. It’s not rowdy exactly, but there’s this gentle buzz that makes you feel connected to the real Bologna rather than trapped in a tourist bubble. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me because while everything works well and the service is solid, it’s not the kind of place that’s going to blow your mind with luxury touches – and honestly, that’s exactly what I wanted. Sometimes you just need a really good base for exploring one of Italy’s most underrated cities, and Montebello House delivers on that promise without any fuss.

Reviews of Montebello House Bologna
Good – Olivia from United Kingdom – 11 June 2025 (7/10)
What could be improved: we had a power outage during our stay – not the hosts fault, but the hosts manner was bizarrely accusatory – almost suggesting that we were deliberately trying to make difficulties for her, rather than reporting on what was happening. Separately, the aur conditioning did not work – we cycled through all the modes, left it on for several hours, and the temperature stayed exactly the same. However, flat was clean and very well located
Great stay in Bologna centre – Spadano from United Kingdom – 3 January 2025 (9/10)
Excellent location, It was very easy to communicate with the owner. Highly recommended.

Spacious apartment with everything you need for a comfortable stay
What could be improved: Can be a little noisy, mainly from the street. Didn’t detract from our stay. No contact entry could put some off but worked fine for us.Very good – Anuj from United Kingdom – 8 October 2023 (8/10)
The team were very helpful and kept in touch
What could be improved: There wasn't a lot to dislike however we arrived late at night and the area seemed a little run down. This is outside of the host's control and they did a good job with what they hadSuperb – Nina from Australia – 21 June 2023 (9/10)
Great location, near the station but also close to the city centre. Spacious apartment and very responsive host.
A comfortable stay in a very good location – Eitan from Israel – 1 May 2023 (9/10)
the location was perfect- short walking distance to the main highlights of Bologna and to the train station. the apartment was well-equipped and furnished and it was very tidy and clean.
the owner was very responsive and helpful.
What could be improved: there was a bit of a smoking smell in the apartment. That was the only thing that bothered me.Good – Cambriastone from United Kingdom – 12 March 2023 (7/10)
Exceptionally clean, good size for two people, local bottle of wine and the black out blinds.
What could be improved: You could hear traffic and people talking, not only outside the building, but also internally across other apartments. There was an odd sewage smell from the kitchen and we had asked the host to look into it, but we never had an update. The caffetiere was gross, don't use it – it is crusted at the bottomSuperb – Po from Taiwan – 7 October 2022 (9/10)
The location is good and I like that they offer welcome drink.
Superb – Valda from Latvia – 3 August 2022 (9/10)
