It’s actually got this understated elegance thing going on – not flashy, but the kind of place where you walk in and immediately feel like you made the right choice. Via Cervellati is one of those quieter Bologna streets that locals use as a shortcut, so you’re genuinely in the fabric of the city rather than stuck in some tourist bubble.

The thing about staying here is that you’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but – and this is crucial – you’re not dealing with the late-night noise that comes with being right on the main drag. I mean, Bologna can get pretty lively, especially when students are around, but this spot hits that sweet spot where you can actually sleep. The rooms have this modern Italian design that doesn’t try too hard, you know? Clean lines, decent space (which honestly isn’t a given in historic Italian cities), and the beds are actually comfortable. The bathrooms are nicely updated too, which… well, anyone who’s stayed in older European hotels knows that’s not always guaranteed.

What really sold me on this place is how the staff actually knows the neighborhood. When I asked about where to grab breakfast, the guy at the front desk didn’t just point me to their restaurant – he told me about this little bakery two blocks over where locals line up for cornetti. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you want. The hotel restaurant is solid, don’t get me wrong, but there’s something to be said for wandering Via dell’Indipendenza in the morning with a proper Italian coffee in hand. Speaking of getting around, if you’re driving, there’s parking nearby (not free, but this is Bologna city center, so that’s just reality), and honestly, once you’re checked in, you won’t need your car much. The university area is walkable, the famous porticoes are right there, and the train station is close enough that day trips to Florence or Venice are totally doable.

The 8.1 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bologna, but it gets the fundamentals right and then some. The service feels personal without being intrusive, the location is genuinely convenient without the chaos, and the whole experience just… works. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to feel like I was staying in Bologna rather than just visiting it.

  What could be improved: The shower could use an upgrade. It’s advertised with a balcony and city views but half the balcony has an ac unit so it’s not really usable and the city views are just of other apartments.

  Es war gemütlich, groß und geräumig. Die Inneneinrichtung war sehr passend. Die Räume waren hell und groß.

  The place was near Bologna Centrale train station, around 15mins walk. It was spacious, quiet and clean, with elevator in the building. Big for a family of 6. The kitchen has everything you need except for a kitchen paper towel. The airconditioner inside the apartment was excellent. Washing machine was very helpful with all the soap one needs to wash clothes. It has welcome goodies and free coffee capsules as a treat. Overall, it was worth the stay. Will definitely go back again.
  
  What could be improved: Could have been perfect with some soap and shampoo in the shower area.
