BelliNcentro Overview
You know what struck me first about BelliNcentro? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there – it’s this lovely little four-star place that sits right in the heart of Bologna, and I mean properly in the center, not some “central” hotel that’s actually a twenty-minute walk from anything interesting. Via Carbonara is one of those narrow Bologna streets where you can almost touch the buildings on both sides, and honestly, that’s part of the charm.
The location is just brilliant if you want to really experience Bologna rather than just pass through it. You’re literally steps away from the university quarter – and I’m talking about the oldest university in the Western world here, so there’s this incredible energy from all the students mixed with that deep historical vibe. The morning sounds are fantastic actually; you’ll hear the coffee machines firing up at the little bars below, people heading to work on those classic Italian bikes, and if you’re lucky enough to get a room facing the right direction, you might catch the church bells from San Petronio drifting over the rooftops. I stayed there in late spring and kept my windows open most nights because the air was just perfect, though you might want to pack earplugs if you’re sensitive to the usual city sounds – this is a living neighborhood, not a sanitized tourist bubble.
What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to actually know their city. I mean, when I asked about where to find the best tortellini (obviously), the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a tourist pamphlet – he drew me a little map to this family place about three blocks away where the nonna still makes everything by hand. That kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold. The rooms themselves are comfortable in that European way where everything feels solid and well-thought-out rather than flashy. The bathrooms are properly modern, which honestly matters more than people admit after a long day of walking on cobblestones. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area – Bologna’s old center wasn’t exactly designed for cars – but the hotel staff helped sort that out without making it feel like a huge hassle.
The 8.5 rating makes complete sense to me. It’s not trying to be some grand luxury palace, but it absolutely nails what it sets out to do. You’re staying in a real Bologna neighborhood where you can grab fresh bread from the bakery around the corner, stumble upon those incredible covered markets, and actually walk to the main piazzas without needing a taxi or figuring out bus routes. The whole experience feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find – you’re not just visiting Bologna, you’re kind of living in it for a few days.

Reviews of BelliNcentro
Very good – Alison from United Kingdom – 29 October 2024 (8/10)
The location is great – as was the pizza restaurant recommendation!
What could be improved: The biggest (only) downer really was the noise of the showers from other apartments! Sounded like the water was cascading down a pipe in our apartment. Not great at 0530.Exceptional – Patrizia from Italy – 19 October 2024 (10/10)
Pulizia, cortesia, posizione, silenzio, piano terra

Kann ich unbedingt empfehlen – Lage, Ausstattung, äußerst zuvorkommender Gastgeber! – Hiebsch from Austria – 24 September 2024 (10/10)
Very good – Jane from New Zealand – 22 September 2024 (8/10)
Location, location, location.
Host very kindly let us leave our luggage in the apartment until we left for the airport.
What could be improved: Having to pay extra for the use of the dishwasher and washing machine. It should be stated in the property description on booking.comGood – Antonio from Spain – 21 July 2024 (7/10)
Ubicación muy buena
What could be improved: No se podía usar lavavajillasEverything needed to optimise enjoyment of beautiful Bologna. – Julie from Australia – 1 July 2024 (9/10)
The property was well equipped and conveniently located within 10 minutes walk from most attractions in the historic centre and a 20-25 minute walk from the station. It had a great feel to it which was also due to the very pleasant and helpful property owner, Paolo.
What could be improved: It was a little dark although the small enclosed courtyard slightly improved this.Great place to spend some time in Bologna – Gunter from Germany – 7 May 2024 (9/10)
Very nice and spacious apartment in a quiet road in the historic center, just a few minutes walk to all major attractions, bars, and good restaurants. The apartment is clean, tidy, and well equipped with everything that one needs. The host is very nice and helpful. The apartment was a bit cold, but after mentioning this we immediately received an extra duvet and blanket. Our planned check-in and check-out got messed up because of a flight delay on the day of arrival and a railway strike on the day of departure, but the host also helped out to deal with this. Great place to spend some time in Bologna!
Amazing position in centre. – Anne from United Kingdom – 29 September 2023 (7/10)
The location was FABULOUS!.The owner was friendly but became prickly when I questioned him about 30 euro city tax (5 per person per night) even though booking.com stated that it was included.Guests have a right to ask.The super double shower-great pressure. The cleanliness.Groubd floor so only three small stairs once in the apartment.
What could be improved: The fact that it is 10 euros to use one load of dishwasher and 10 euros to do one wash.Disgusting! He kept this out of the advertising. The patio needs freshened up and was untidy.A few plants… ornaments etc would suffice. Not very well equipped if you want to cook and was frightened to cook as was sent a message re.turning a lever to original position to ensure our safety. No cooking therefore.
Otherwise, the strong points were the area, cleanliness and owner(once he lost his attitude).Exceptional – Antoaneta from Bulgaria – 18 March 2023 (10/10)
