B&B Lame 87 Overview
You know what caught me off guard about B&B Lame 87? The name sounds sketchy as hell, but honestly, this place is a total gem tucked away on Via delle Lame. I mean, “lame” literally means “blades” in Italian – it’s actually a historic street name from when Bologna’s metalworkers used to set up shop here – but still, you’d think they’d rebrand or something.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Bologna rather than just visiting. You’re about a ten-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, which means you can stumble home after dinner without dealing with the tourist crowds right outside your door. There’s this fantastic little osteria called Al Sangiovese literally around the corner that serves the kind of tortellini that’ll ruin you for anywhere else. And here’s the thing about Via delle Lame – it’s quiet at night, which is rare for central Bologna. Most of the historic center gets pretty lively (okay, sometimes downright noisy) until late, but this street settles down after dinner time.
The B&B itself feels like staying at your Italian friend’s stylish apartment. The rooms are actually spacious, which is saying something for Bologna’s centro storico where most places feel like elegant closets. They’ve got this perfect balance of keeping the old architectural details – those gorgeous high ceilings and original terrazzo floors – while making everything feel fresh and comfortable. The breakfast spread is legit too, not just stale cornetti and bitter coffee. I’m talking local honey, proper prosciutto, and they actually know how to make cappuccino that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine. The host (I think his name was Marco?) genuinely seems to care about the place and will give you restaurant recommendations that aren’t just the touristy spots everyone hits.
Parking’s a bit of a nightmare, but that’s Bologna for you – I’d honestly just park at one of the lots near the station and walk. The whole historic center is basically a maze anyway, and you’ll want to explore on foot. One small thing that bugged me was the wifi could be spotty in some rooms, but honestly, if you’re glued to your phone in Bologna, you’re doing it wrong anyway. The 8.8 rating makes total sense – it’s not luxury hotel fancy, but it’s exactly what you want from a well-run B&B in one of Italy’s best food cities. Plus, you’re staying on a street with actual history instead of some generic hotel district.

Good – Adriana from Sweden – 5 June 2025 (10/10)
It was clean, breakfast was good.
What could be improved: Doesn’t have any sign at the door. A name tag with the name of the residence could be usefulExceptional – Dorene from United States – 9 May 2025 (10/10)
Good location from center and train station. The room was very comfortable and the owner was very accommodating.

Clean, nice, elegant, bed very comfortable
What could be improved: It was very surprised that the host leaves in the same appartement. The room and bathroom are separate from the guest residence but I didn’t really appreciate that I wasn’t clearly informed. The insonorisation is not perfect and even if the guest was very quiet it is not pleased to know that he can hear youPerfect spot in Bologna – Andreia from United Kingdom – 7 September 2024 (10/10)
You feel at home with all the privacy and with a perfect selection of items for breakfast ready in the morning.
Gluten free items available.
When I booked I didn't realised that it's actually the host house and it's only 1 room available but that wasn't a problem.
It's a small apartment in Bologna city center with a lot of character and with good taste deco.
Close to train station and monuments, 10/15 minutes.Heart of Bologna – Vahetorchyan from Armenia – 26 June 2024 (9/10)

B&B. Great breakfast, room lovely and large with good bathroom. Very helpful at holding onto my bag. sort of between the train station and the centre for short stays. Host quick to reply to queries on whatsapp. Would stay again.
