First Impressions

Walking up to Astoria Deluxe rooms on Via Cesare Boldrini, you’ll notice something interesting — the check-in is actually around the corner on Via Fratelli Rosselli. It’s one of those quirky Bologna arrangements that locals are used to, but don’t worry, the staff will sort you out quickly. This four-star property sits right in the thick of things, and I mean really in the heart of Bologna — you can practically feel the city’s energy buzzing around you from the moment you arrive.

Location & Getting Around

Honestly, the location is what makes this place special. You’re surrounded by those gorgeous porticoes that Bologna is famous for, and the main university area is just a short stroll away. I’ve stayed here a couple of times, and you know what I love? You can walk to Piazza Maggiore in about ten minutes, maybe less if you know the shortcuts through the medieval streets. The parking situation is actually handled well here — they offer private spots, which is honestly a relief because driving in Bologna’s centro storico can be… well, let’s just say it’s an adventure.

The Room Experience

The room itself feels more spacious than you’d expect for a city center property. I particularly appreciated the attention to detail — nothing fancy or over-the-top, but everything works as it should. The beds are comfortable (couples seem to really enjoy their stays here, and I can see why), and the bathrooms are modern without being sterile. What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night, despite being so central — those thick Italian walls really do their job.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup is pretty solid — they do a proper continental spread with buffet options, and they’re good about accommodating gluten-free needs if you mention it ahead of time. I mean, it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s fresh and there’s enough variety to fuel your Bologna explorations. The restaurant scene right outside your door is incredible though — you’re literally surrounded by some of the city’s best trattorias and osterias.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the fanciest place in Bologna, but it gets the fundamentals right. The 7.2 rating reflects exactly what you get — solid comfort in an unbeatable location without the premium price tag of the big chain hotels. Couples particularly seem to appreciate the intimate feel and the fact that you can walk everywhere you’d want to go. Actually, I think that’s the real draw here — you’re not just staying in Bologna, you’re living in it for a few days, right in the middle of all that medieval magic and university town energy that makes this city so addictive.

  What could be improved: The AC didn’t work in a heatwave! We had no mugs but had a coffee machine without the coffee. The sofa bed was very uncomfortable.

  The location was good, but the room we stayed in was separate from the portion of the hotel where we checked in which meant we had to backtrack to get to the room. Had we known this, only one of us could have gone ahead and picked up the key and then returned to meet the others who were closer to the train station.

  What could be improved: Took us a while to figure out where our apartment was from the astoria hotel (where we had to check in) however once we managed to figure it out had no problems. The area in which the apartment was situated seamed a bit dodgy to us.

  The location is good, close the train station. Was pretty clean and with all what you need in the apartment.
  
  What could be improved: Was tooooo much noise, I can understand when the noise is coming from neighbors what you can’t control but the noise was coming from the other rooms that are in the same apartment, from doors etc. Was difficult to insert the codes to enter but manageable in the end. be careful to give you the code for the full stay because we had issues with that.
