I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Arcade” on Via Marconi, I wasn’t expecting much from the name or the somewhat industrial-looking street. But you know what? This place totally surprised me, and I mean that in the best way possible. The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about what travelers need, not just what looks good in photos.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Bologna like a local rather than just tick off tourist boxes. Sure, it’s a 10-minute walk to Piazza Maggiore, but that walk takes you through some of the city’s most authentic neighborhoods – you’ll pass the morning market stalls, little cafés where nonnas grab their espresso, and those narrow medieval streets that make Bologna feel like a living museum. Via Marconi itself is actually pretty quiet at night (I was worried it might be noisy since it’s a main street), and there’s decent parking nearby if you’re driving, which – let’s face it – is rare in Bologna’s historic center.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their city. The guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic map; he marked his favorite osteria three blocks away and warned me that the gelateria around the corner gets crazy crowded after 8 PM but has the best pistachio gelato in the neighborhood. The rooms themselves feel thoughtfully designed – not flashy, but everything works properly, which you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case in boutique hotels. The beds are actually comfortable (firm but not hard), the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the shower has proper water pressure. I mean, these things matter when you’ve been walking around cobblestones all day.

The breakfast situation is pretty solid too – they do this local cheese and prosciutto spread that’s way better than the usual continental buffet nonsense, and the coffee is proper Italian coffee, not that watery tourist stuff. What I really appreciated was how they handle the evening hours; the lobby stays lively but not chaotic, and there’s this little seating area where you can plan your next day or just decompress with a drink. The whole vibe feels more like staying at a well-run guesthouse than a corporate hotel, if that makes sense.

Look, Bologna isn’t Florence or Rome – it doesn’t need to be. It’s got this incredible food scene, gorgeous architecture that tourists somehow miss, and a university energy that keeps everything feeling vibrant. The Arcade gets that completely. You’re close enough to duck into the Quadrilatero food market for lunch, grab aperitivo on Via del Pratello, or catch a late dinner in Osteria del Sole, but you’re also positioned to explore beyond the obvious spots. After staying here, I actually understood why Bolognesi are so proud of their city – and honestly, that’s worth way more than a fancy hotel lobby or a perfect Instagram shot.

  La posizione, è stato appena ristrutturato ed è tutto nuovissimo dagli arredi ai sanitari, gli infissi e la climatizzazione perfetti. C'è la macchinetta del caffè, l'aspirapolvere e il phon.

• Spatious apartment in city centre – Βενετια from Greece – 15 May 2025 (9/10)

  A fully renovated apartment in a convenient location, close to almost all main attractions (reachable within a 7min walk) and with very good bus connections. Apartment is spatious and was well prepared for our arrival and spotlessly clean. Espresso coffee machine including capsules was a nice surprise. Excellent communication through the booking up, with clear instructions for the contactless check-in/check-out.
  
  What could be improved: There wasn't actually something we didn't like. Maybe some small details like hangers for the towels in the bathroom, a toaster and a water boiler in the kitchen would make the experience even better.
  To note that apartment is overlooking a rather busy street. So if you're used to sleeping with windows open, like we are, be prepared for some slight noise. With windows closed however apartment is fully sound proof.

  What could be improved: Le finestre in soggiorno non si chiudono nella parte alta e questo da molto fastidio perché tutto il rumore della strada si sente in casa come se le finestre fossero aperte, le porte della doccia non si chiudono e questo fa uscire tanta acqua sul pavimento, da sotto il lavandino c’è una perdita d’acqua ( o almeno cosi sembra, perché abbiamo notato una scia d’acqua in quella zona), e la maniglia del portoncino blindato si stacca.

  Tökéletes elhelyezkedés, a város minden látványossága gyalogtávon elérhető. A lakás világos, modern, láthatóan nemrég újították fel. A ház 5. emeletén található, lift van, amivel semmi gondunk nem volt. A nagyforgalmú utca ellenére a lakás csendes, az ablakok jó zajszigetelésűek. A közelben élelmiszer és más egyéb bevásárlási lehetőségek vannak, minden könnyen beszerezhető. Gyalogtávon belül több étterem is található.
  
  What could be improved: Néhány hiányosságra szeretnénk felhívni a figyelmet. Hiányzik az előszobából egy fogas a kabátoknak. A konyha- felszerelésekből hiányzik a vízforraló és a kenyérpirító, jó lenne néhány nagyobb csésze teának és műzlis tálkák.
  Hasznos lenne egy bőröndtartó állvány, hogy ne a széket foglalja el a csomag. A fürdőszobában nincs WC papír tartó és hajszárító.
