RealKasa Orto Botanico Overview
You know what caught me off guard about RealKasa Orto Botanico? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there. I mean, it’s literally a stone’s throw from the Orto Botanico – Bologna’s botanical garden that most tourists completely miss, which is honestly a shame because it’s this gorgeous green pocket right in the university district. The hotel sits on Via Mascarella, and if you know Bologna at all, you’ll recognize this as one of those streets that perfectly captures the city’s vibe – busy enough to feel alive but not so chaotic that you can’t think straight.
The building itself has that understated elegance that Bologna does so well. It’s not trying to be flashy (thank god), but everything feels thoughtfully put together. The rooms are what I’d call “smart comfortable” – they’ve figured out how to make relatively compact spaces feel spacious, and honestly, the beds are some of the best I’ve slept in. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re right in the thick of the university area. I was expecting some student noise, but the windows must be exceptional because I barely heard the late-night foot traffic that definitely happens on Via Mascarella.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before I booked: the location is actually perfect for eating your way through Bologna properly. You’ve got Osteria del Sole just a few minutes’ walk away – that’s the place where you bring your own food and just buy wine, sort of a Bologna institution that feels intimidating until you try it. And the Saturday morning market at Piazza dell’Aldrovandi is close enough that you can actually smell the fresh bread and hear the vendors setting up if you’re an early riser. The staff seemed to genuinely know their neighborhood too, which made a difference. When I asked about avoiding the tourist trap restaurants, they steered me toward places I never would have found otherwise – little spots tucked into side streets where locals actually eat.
The whole experience just felt… right, I guess? Like, sometimes you stay somewhere and everything’s fine but forgettable. This wasn’t that. Maybe it’s because Bologna itself gets under your skin in the best way, or maybe it’s because RealKasa has figured out how to enhance that experience rather than compete with it. The service was attentive without being hovering, the common areas felt lived-in rather than staged, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. I’d definitely stay here again, and I’m already planning to – probably in late spring when the botanical garden is in full bloom and the evening passeggiata really comes alive on these streets.

Reviews of RealKasa Orto Botanico
Modern apartment – Anonymous from Romania – 29 June 2025 (10/10)
– Big apartment, generally modern and with functional AC everywhere (including the kitchen), can host up to 6 persons, all the beds are comfortable.
– Walkable distance to most touristic attraction.
– They let us keep the luggage longer than the check-out hour
What could be improved: Even though everything was fine as you can see from my grade, if I had to suggest something probably for us it would've helped if we had some coffee capsules, even though the host indicated which one we should find for the coffee maker, we couldn't find them nearby and in our short stay we didn't bother searching longer to not waste too much time. While not neccessary I think it would've improved a little bit the experience.Exceptional – Britt from Sweden – 18 June 2025 (10/10)
Trevlig våning med gott om utrymme och toppen med två badrum. Bra läge nära stationen och centrum.

A very nice apartment, very well located, walking distance to the city center, shops, restaurants nearby, the apartment has everything you need, we did the check in early and we could leave an hour over the hour of check out, I recommend this apartment.
Superb – Maria from Israel – 10 April 2025 (9/10)
Very beautifully decorated and cozy apartment, equipped with all the necessary amenities and fits perfectly for 4 people. Clean and spacious. It has great location, about 15min walk from the city center and the train station. There are lots of restaurants, cafés and bars nearby.
O experiență foarte plăcută în Italia – Tania from Romania – 6 March 2025 (10/10)
