The name literally means “the mill,” and honestly, it fits perfectly with this whole restored industrial vibe Bologna’s got going on in this part of the city. I mean, Via Aurelio Saffi isn’t exactly the touristy center everyone talks about, but that’s actually why I loved staying here. You’re in a proper residential neighborhood where actual Bolognese people live – I could hear kids playing in the courtyard in the evenings and smell someone’s ragù simmering from a nearby window. The apartment itself feels like someone’s stylish cousin let you crash at their place, not some sterile hotel room. And that free parking they mention? In Bologna, that’s basically like finding gold. I watched other travelers circling the blocks near Piazza Maggiore for twenty minutes while I was already unpacked and exploring.

The space has this perfect lived-in quality – well-chosen furniture that actually looks comfortable, a kitchen where you can tell someone thought about how people really cook (decent knife, proper cutting board, not just the usual tiny European fridge situation). I ended up making breakfast most mornings because there’s this little mercato just down the street where an older woman sells the most incredible peaches I’ve ever tasted. The bedroom’s quiet too, which surprised me since you’re still in the city – apparently the building’s thick walls do their job. What really sold me though was how the hosts handled everything. Check-in was smooth, they actually answered their phone when I got confused about the entrance (there are two doors, use the one on the right), and they left these handwritten notes about where to find the best mortadella. I mean, come on.

Here’s the thing about this area – you’re maybe a fifteen-minute walk from all the medieval towers and university crowds, but you get to see how Bologna actually functions as a city. There’s a bus stop right outside that’ll take you straight to the train station, and I discovered this tiny osteria called Da Cesari just around the corner that doesn’t even have a sign but serves the kind of tortellini that ruins you for everywhere else. The apartment’s got that high rating for a reason – it’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just genuinely well-done. Clean, thoughtful, with little touches that show someone cares about the place. Plus, and I can’t stress this enough, you can park your car and forget about it. In a city where most hotels charge extra for parking that’s still a twenty-minute walk away, that alone makes this place worth booking.

  I traveled with my nephew for a school related topic during a heat wave. Apartment is big, very clean, newly renovated, comfortable and decorated with exceptional taste. New appliances in the fully equipped kitchen, coffee machine and plenty of coffee, air conditioning. Windows give to a quiet green alley where people walk, run or cycle, no cars. The host, Antonio was exceptionally welcoming and supportive, provided detailed indications to handle access by car or door entrance, and was available at any time. Parking is easy in the closed yard.
  
  What could be improved: Location is a bit out of the city center but easily accessible by foot or bus, so is the beautiful San Luca. No complaints.
