Appartamenti Ariosti a un passo da Piazza Maggiore Overview
First Impressions
Walking down the narrow cobblestone streets near Piazza Maggiore, you’d almost miss the entrance to Appartamenti Ariosti a un passo da Piazza Maggiore if you weren’t looking for it. The building sits tucked away on Vicolo degli Ariosti, which honestly feels like stepping into old Bologna — you know, the version tourists dream about but rarely find. This four-star property doesn’t scream for attention, and that’s actually part of its charm. The understated entrance gives way to something quite special once you’re inside.
The Heart of Bologna
I mean, when couples rate the location 9.8 out of 10, there’s got to be something to it, right? You’re literally steps from Piazza Maggiore — I’m talking a two-minute walk to the Basilica di San Petronio and all those incredible porticoes that make Bologna so distinctive. What I love about this spot is that you’re close enough to everything that matters, but the little side street keeps you away from the tourist crowds that can get overwhelming during peak season. The morning walk to grab coffee feels authentically Italian rather than like you’re fighting through a theme park.
The Apartment Experience
Each apartment here feels more like staying in a local’s home than a typical hotel room. The spaces are thoughtfully designed with modern touches that don’t fight against the historic character of the building. You’ll find a proper kitchen setup — not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation — which honestly makes a huge difference when you want to grab fresh ingredients from the nearby Mercato delle Erbe and cook something simple. The bathrooms are updated without being sterile, and there’s enough space to actually unpack and settle in for a few days.
Local Insights
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before my first visit to this area: the best restaurant recommendations aren’t the ones right on Piazza Maggiore (those are fine, but touristy), they’re the ones tucked into the side streets within a five-minute walk. The staff at Appartamenti Ariosti actually knows this neighborhood — they’ll point you toward places where locals eat, not just the obvious spots. Also, if you’re driving, there’s parking available, which is honestly a small miracle in this part of the city center.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Bologna isn’t Florence or Rome — it doesn’t hit you over the head with famous landmarks. Instead, it sort of sneaks up on you with incredible food, beautiful architecture, and this lived-in feeling that’s hard to find in Italy’s more famous destinations. Staying at this property puts you right in the middle of that experience without the premium prices you’d pay in other cities. The combination of authentic location, practical amenities, and genuine local character makes it the kind of place you’d actually want to return to. Plus, that 8.4 rating reflects what you’ll find — solid, reliable, and genuinely enjoyable without any unpleasant surprises.

Reviews of Appartamenti Ariosti a un passo da Piazza Maggiore
Paola was very helpful in getting a technician to fix our door lock problem. A small setback upon ou – Jennifer from United States – 20 May 2025 (8/10)
The location is excellent. 15 minute walk from the train station, very close to Piazza Maggiore. Abundant restaurant choices and shopping nearby.
What could be improved: The showers leaked from bottom as others have mentioned. Put a large towel at the bottom before stepping in and problem averted.Good – Stephanie from Australia – 27 April 2025 (7/10)
The facilities were very clean, and the apartment was spotless. It was a short walk to the city centre and was close to restaurants and attractions.
What could be improved: The introduction to staff and check-in was very rushed and brief, giving you no time to remember the key system or how to access the apartment. It would have been nice to see some basic amenities like laundry liquid or tea bags.Superb – Χρηστος from Greece – 6 March 2025 (9/10)
The location is perfect; 2 mins from the city center
Superb – Claudia from Romania – 2 June 2024 (9/10)
We really liked the apartment, especially the fact that it is located 2 minutes from Piazza Maggiore and very close to the main attractions of the city. The room is spacious and clean, and the kitchen is equipped with everything you need to prepare a snack or breakfast.
What could be improved: If you plan to sleep late, be aware that in the courtyard where the apartment is located, trolleys with linen from a nearby hotel are pulled and it is always noisy from 5 am until late at night. Also, water flows from the shower cabin to the middle of the hall, and the toilet lid is broken.Highly recommend.. – Jessie from Australia – 12 April 2024 (8/10)
We were there for 5 nights. So central.. right next to Piazza Maggiore. Close to taxis, buses, restaurants etc…
The apartment is immaculate. Still like new. Quite spacious. Heaps of storage for clothes, lots of hangers.
In a private block with security gate.. then door to block. And has a lift.
Managing company gave us early entry.. and organised a private driver to airport.
Recommend highly this property.
What could be improved: 2 small things…
The shower leaked water from front and side. Leaves puddles.
The apartment got very hot during the night. No instructions on how to use air con or heating, or hos to turn it off. Hottest seemed to be 3am. All seemed to be pre- programmed.Absolutely fantastic – Tim from United Kingdom – 4 April 2024 (9/10)
We were met by the host at the door armed with coffee pods for the coffee machine. The location was perfect and as close to Piazza Maggiore as you could get practically.
The service from WonderfulItaly who run the appartment was second to none and we would like to stay in the same appartment again.
What could be improved: No toiletries for the shower and the toilet seat was completely loose.A modern apartment in a great location but lacking the personal touch. – Vivien from Australia – 28 September 2023 (7/10)
Great location and modern clean apartment
What could be improved: There was virtually no soap when we arrived and after contacting the staff to ask for more, we were told ‘Sorry – we can’t get you any more’. Had to go and buy our own. Not good enough. Took a long time to have questions answered by text such as where to leave luggage etc.Superb – Frederik from Denmark – 5 September 2023 (9/10)
Great location – clean and nice looking apartment
What could be improved: Nothinggreat location – Adam from Gibraltar – 2 June 2023 (9/10)

What could be improved: couple of minor loose bathroom fittings which host assured us will be fixed . No sofa to relax on( small studio)very much recommended – Adnan from United Kingdom – 19 February 2023 (9/10)
