Altabella Panoramic Tower Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “Altabella Panoramic Tower,” I was expecting some massive glass monstrosity. But this place is actually tucked into a narrow medieval street that most tourists walk right past, and that’s exactly what makes it special. Via Altabella is one of those ancient Bologna streets where you can literally touch both sides if you stretch your arms out, and the hotel sits on the third floor of what used to be… well, probably someone’s palazzo centuries ago. The entrance is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it, which I mean, sort of adds to the charm once you’re actually staying there.
What really gets me about this place is the views – and I’m not just saying that because “panoramic” is in the name. From the upper floors, you get these incredible sight lines over Bologna’s famous terracotta rooftops, and on clear days you can actually see the hills rolling toward the Apennines. The rooms themselves have this interesting mix of old-world character (think exposed beams and thick walls that keep things blissfully quiet) with modern touches that actually work. The beds are legitimately comfortable, which honestly surprised me since Italian hotels can be hit-or-miss on that front. You know what I really appreciated? The windows actually open properly – none of that tiny crack nonsense you get in some places.
The location is pretty brilliant if you know Bologna at all. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but because you’re on this little side street, you don’t get the chaos of tourists dragging suitcases over cobblestones at all hours. Via del Pavaglione is right there if you want to do some shopping, and honestly, some of the best osterie in the city are within stumbling distance. I found myself grabbing coffee at this tiny place called Caffè Centrale most mornings – it’s maybe fifty steps from the hotel entrance and the barista there makes a cappuccino that’ll ruin Starbucks for you forever. The staff at Altabella seem to know all the local spots too, which is refreshing since they’re not just reciting the same tourist traps everyone else mentions. Check-in was smooth, no weird surprises with the rate, and they actually helped me figure out the best walking route to the train station with my luggage (spoiler: it’s not the most obvious path). The 8.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s not perfect, but it gets the important stuff right and has character that chain hotels just can’t fake.

Reviews of Altabella Panoramic Tower
The location, the interior design work together to create a wonderful stay in the heart of Bologna. – Adrian from Romania – 30 June 2025 (10/10)
Superbly decorated apartment.
What could be improved: Wish we could have checked out an hour later.Stylish & comfortable apartment with one-of-a kind views. – Steven from Canada – 11 May 2025 (10/10)
Unique apartment with stunning views in all directions. Perfect location in the heart of Bologna. Comfortable bed. Spacious bathroom with excellent shower. Property owner was very quick to respond (via WhatsApp) to any question I had.
What could be improved: Passport verification service (Vikey) used by this property was challenging and time-consuming to use. After entering data and uploading passport scans from my phone, the verification service would tell me, "The uploaded photos are not correct" and prompt me to try again. I tried several times with the same result. So, I contacted the property owner via WhatsAp. The owner told me that the verification was actually successful. Annoying waste of time.Superb – Kirill from Russia – 30 March 2025 (9/10)
The appartment is gorgeous, check in is easy, lots of instructions inside the appartment
What could be improved: Very noisy at night from the streetIdeal accommodation – Mike from United Kingdom – 4 March 2025 (10/10)
Amazing place to stay, the views are outstanding, and perfect being so central. Facilities were excellent, loved the electronic key system, and had a very comfy bed. There's some late night noise, but you're staying in the centre of Bologna, and some people might not like the 3rd floor flat, but it's worth it for this stunning flat. I love Bologna and would look to stay here again without hesitation.
Exceptional – Chiara from United Kingdom – 19 February 2025 (10/10)
The apartment had everything you could ask for. With a fantastic view and in the very centre of town.
Stay in this amazing tower experience! – Robert from United States – 3 December 2024 (10/10)
Wow! The location of this apartment is above the city of Bologna! Truly unique experience – you have a 360 degree view of the city and the beautiful towers!
What could be improved: Nothing! Will definitely return if the price remains reasonable. – Makram from United States – 1 December 2024 (10/10)
The views (see pics) during the daytime were the best one could ask for. Tasteful decor, perfect location. One of my favorite places I’ve ever stayed at.
Be aware three flights of stairs need to be climbed to reach the property, also a staircase inside to reach the upstairs. You also need internet connection on your phone to get in.
What could be improved: No complaintsLovely location and very comfy – Anthony from Australia – 28 October 2024 (9/10)
location and the apartment were fantastic, so to having the ability to do washing.
What could be improved: Finding out on arrival we were required to walk through the local alleys and streets to find a place to bin all our rubbish after 4 days of stay. I get there are local requirements.. but some notice that you have to do the 120 stairs multiple times would be appreciated. no issues doing dishes and cleaning, but finding the local bins was average! It is worth it! – Nona from Bulgaria – 10 June 2024 (9/10)
Amazing apartment better than the pictures, you are in the heart of the city and in the same time you are in your dream home!
What could be improved: They asked us to leave at 10 and to take out the trash, which was strange. All the messages are automatic never had the chance to comunicate with a life person.Amazing location, great kitchen, but poor soundproofing and limited comfort. – Mikaa from France – 4 May 2024 (9/10)
Location: absolute city center, walking distance to all of Bologna's major points of interest, supermarket 50 meters away.
360-degrees views on Bologna's city centre: 9 towers out of 20 can be seen from the apartment — exceptional!
Great kitchen, with almost everything one may need to cook meals, clean dishes and clean clothes.
What could be improved: No soundproofing in the bathroom and bedroom: hard to fall asleep due to people partying downstairs past midnight… and then, woken up earlier than wished by the massive noise of garbage pickup trucks and then loud cleaning in the street.
Bad odors in the bedroom : there must be an issue with the gray water system or something of that sort.
All seats in the livingroom are uncomfortable and none are really suitable for in-house dining: sofa is too hard, the wooden chairs are hard and too low for the dining table, and the high chairs by the kitchen bar are too high for the bar and there's no room for legs either… Please invest in cushions and more adapted seating to make this livingroom more comfortable.
The TV in the bedroom wasn't set up nor even plugged in. But that is a minor shortcoming.
