Almarossa Overview
You know what struck me first about Almarossa? It’s tucked right into this bustling university quarter on Via Irnerio, and honestly, the energy is infectious. I mean, you step out the front door and you’re immediately in the thick of Bologna’s student life – there’s this constant hum of conversation from the cafés, the clatter of bikes on cobblestones, and the smell of fresh pasta drifting from about six different trattorias within a two-minute walk. The hotel itself feels like it gets this vibe perfectly – it’s polished enough to earn those four stars, but there’s nothing stuffy about it.
The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. When I asked about getting to the Quadrilatero (that’s the old market area), the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the main drag – he suggested cutting through Piazza Verdi first because there’s this little bookshop I’d probably like, and then winding through the smaller streets to avoid the tourist crowds. He was right on both counts. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent shower pressure – but it’s the little touches that show someone’s paying attention. The windows actually open (thank god, because Bologna gets warm), and they’ve got these heavy curtains that block out the street noise pretty well. Though honestly, the buzz from Via Irnerio dies down after midnight anyway, so it’s not like you’re dealing with Rome-level chaos.
What really sold me on this place is how it sits in the city. You’re a fifteen-minute walk from the main piazzas – Maggiore and Nettuno – but you’re also right in the middle of where actual Bolognese people live and work. The university buildings are literally around the corner, so there’s always this mix of professors grabbing espresso and students huddled over books at the outdoor tables. Parking’s a bit of a nightmare (welcome to Bologna), but the hotel can sort out a spot for you if you call ahead. I ended up just using the trains anyway – the station’s close enough that you can walk it with luggage, and from there you’ve got connections to Florence, Venice, wherever. The 8.8 rating makes sense once you’ve been there a few days. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but everything works, the location is genuinely great for exploring, and the staff seems to actually care about whether you’re having a good time. Sometimes that’s worth more than marble bathrooms and turndown service.

Reviews of Almarossa
Exceptional – Simeonof from Greece – 11 July 2025 (10/10)
The hotel was excellent! The room was far better than I expected. The beds were very comfortable, there was enough space in the closets and the bathroom was very big. They cleaned the room everyday, they also have laundry room in case you need it and lockers to leave your baggage . The location was very good, 10 min walk to Piazza Maggiore and 15 min to the central train station. But the best about the hotel was the staff, especially Clarissa and Lia! They were the most kind and helpful staff I have ever encountered in a hotel! Big plus the communication via WhatsApp. I would definitely stay again and I sure recommend it to everyone!
The rooms are great, everything you need, clean, everything works. The best thing about it was the kindness and availabi – Sorin-claude from Romania – 7 July 2025 (10/10)

I liked that it was very close to the central bus station, since we traveled by bus. Also, it was very clean and tidy, with all the amenities we needed. The bed was super comfortable.
What could be improved: There was nothing I didn’t like, honestly.very comfortable / best ratio price/service – Anna from Italy – 6 July 2025 (10/10)
Iron and iron board availability. The front desk person was extremely helpful to give advice about places to go to have breakfast and dinner. All rooms looked freshly painted and had new furniture.

What could be improved: All was really nice!Clean and comfortable. – Kayo from Japan – 13 June 2025 (9/10)
The location is in a less crowded area on the periphery of the most crowded old city, which means it's the best place.
What could be improved: Only a fraction of the lamps were connected to wall switches, which means you have to go around the rooms to switch on and off them.10/10 would stay again – Abigail from Singapore – 3 June 2025 (10/10)
Very modern, well equipped, clean and comfortable apartment. Can tell that they have anticipated all the guests’ needs. Loved the common area for washing machines and a dryer that was free for guests (only pay for detergent if needed). Very smooth processes for checking in late and leaving luggage at the apartment after check out. This was probably the best property we stayed in during our trip.
Also located near food, and within walking distance of both the train station and the old town.
What could be improved: Nothing
