Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Bologna apartments, and Ak Holidays Apartment 59 on Via Mascarella is honestly one of those places that just gets it right. The moment you walk up to that first floor (and yeah, it’s a proper Italian first floor – so one flight up), you can tell someone actually thought about what travelers need. The 9.5 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen – it’s because this place feels like staying at a friend’s well-appointed flat rather than some sterile hotel room.

Via Mascarella is… well, it’s perfect if you know Bologna at all. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos right outside your window. I mean, you’ll hear some street life – it’s Italy, after all – but it’s that good kind of neighborhood buzz, not the 3 AM drunk tourist stumbling kind. The university area is right there too, so there’s always this great energy without being overwhelming. What I really love is how you can grab your morning coffee at any of the local bars (and I mean actual Italian bars, not Starbucks), then wander over to the market stalls near the university, or just disappear into the maze of porticoes when the mood strikes.

The apartment itself – honestly, this is where they nailed it. It’s got that four-star comfort level without feeling stuffy or trying too hard. The kitchen actually works (you’d be surprised how many vacation rentals phone this in), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. The windows let in that beautiful Bologna light, and you know what? Sometimes in the evening you’ll catch the scent of someone’s dinner cooking nearby, which sounds cheesy but actually adds to the whole experience. Check-in was straightforward – none of that running around the city trying to find some mysterious key pickup location. The whole setup just works, which is probably why it’s sitting at that 9.5 rating. You’re close enough to walk everywhere that matters in Bologna, but tucked away enough that you feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just passing through it.

  The apartment was spacious, clean and well equipped. The location was good for us to get to the Fiera and also enjoy the local restaurants.

  Incredibly large 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment – well equipped and well located. Alessandro, the owner, could not have been more helpful. The only issue – and certainly not major – was the lack of plugs in the bedrooms. Great showers too!

  Wonderful apartment. Very large, quiet and comfortable. 2 bathrooms.
  The kitchen looked like it had all you would need to cook . We did not cook in.
  You could easily put 2 couples in there with no problem. It would be a good family apartment as well.
  Alessandro was a great communicator and was there right on time to let us in.
  Easy to walk to city center and train station. We would stay there again if we come back to Bologna.
