Temporary House Oberdan Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Bologna, and Temporary House Oberdan hits this sweet spot that’s honestly pretty rare. The name threw me off at first – “temporary” sounds like you’re crashing on someone’s couch – but this place is actually more polished than half the hotels charging twice as much. It’s tucked right on Via Oberdan, which if you know Bologna at all, puts you in this perfect bubble where you’re close enough to hear the city buzz but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with drunk students stumbling past your window at 2 AM.

The building itself has that understated Italian elegance thing going on – you know, the kind where everything looks effortlessly put together but you can tell someone actually thought about every detail. When I walked in, the lobby had this warm, lived-in feeling that immediately made me relax. The staff, well, they’re the kind of people who remember your name after one conversation and can tell you which osteria down the street makes the best tortellini (it’s not the touristy one on the corner, trust me). My room was bigger than I expected – Bologna’s not exactly known for spacious accommodations – and the bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed. The bathroom had this rainfall shower that actually had proper pressure, which honestly made my entire week.

What really got me though was how they’ve managed to feel like a proper hotel without losing that boutique intimacy. The neighborhood is perfect for morning walks – you’re literally five minutes from Giardini Margherita if you need some green space, and the Saturday market on Via Oberdan is where locals actually shop, not just tourists buying overpriced prosciutto. Parking can be a bit of a dance (this is Bologna, after all), but the front desk sorted it out without me having to stress about it. The whole experience just felt… easy, I guess? Like someone had anticipated all the little things that usually go wrong and quietly fixed them before you even noticed. At 9.3 rating, it’s clearly not just me who thinks they’re onto something special here – and honestly, for what you get, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to plan your next Bologna trip just so you can stay there again.

    Great location and spacious apartment

What could be improved: The air-conditioning doesn't cool the apartment very well during very hot weather

  • We had never been to Bologna before and this place made us feel comfortable and at home – Jeff from United States – 9 June 2025 (10/10)

Location was amazing, within walking distance to everything we wanted to see.
Having a kitchen was awesome, we bought fresh pasta and cooked it at the apartment which was better than some restaurants in the area
They had a washing machine and we were able to do a few loads of laundry
We would most definitely stay here again, great place

  • Super place in the center of Bologna – Zsombor from Hungary – 14 May 2025 (10/10)

This place is right in the heart of Bologna's old town. A really superb location, right around the Two Towers and the Piazza Maggiore while the many other basilicas, churches, towers and lovely restaurants of the old town are just a few more corners away. The apartment was clean and well equipped. Considering these, I believe the price we paid was alright.

The walking street down by the windows/balcony was a bit noisy at night, especially during the weekend, but I will not list this as a negative point as honestly if one plans to stay right in the heart of such a busy city then it's expected they will hear it beat 🙂

It was nice to watch the busy street from the balcony after a long day of sightseeing.

Some of the furniture inside was a little dated perhaps – evidently the focus was more on function rather than style, but the pictures uploaded don't lie – it's bright and welcoming enough.

The bed was super comfortable and we had all the necessary equipment to make the stay pleasant. As mentioned, the cleanliness was top notch everywhere.

What could be improved: Sometimes when we entered the apartment after a long day out, the air was a little stuffy, almost something like "old people smell", but nothing too bad of course. One recommendation for the host is to add some of those reed diffusers (or something similar) to one of the rooms to make the air smell fresher and nicer.

  • Superb apartment, great instructions by Marco on how to access apartment. Worth the rating and does not disappoint. Woul – Aidan from Ireland – 13 May 2025 (9/10)
