You know what caught me off guard about Suite Nico? The moment I walked through the door on Via Matteotti, I felt like I’d stumbled into someone’s incredibly stylish apartment rather than a hotel. I mean, this street is literally steps from Piazza Maggiore – you can actually hear the buzz from the main square if you open your windows in the evening, but it’s never overwhelming noise, more like the gentle hum of Bologna doing its thing.

The suites themselves are honestly impressive. They’ve got this modern Italian design that doesn’t feel cold or overly minimalist – there’s warmth in the details, like the lighting choices and the way they’ve arranged the living spaces. Each suite has a proper kitchenette, which turned out to be a game-changer for me since Bologna’s markets are incredible and I actually enjoyed putting together simple meals with local ingredients. The beds are seriously comfortable too, and I’m someone who usually struggles with hotel mattresses. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night despite being in the heart of the centro storico – the building seems well-insulated, and Via Matteotti isn’t one of those streets where delivery trucks rumble past at dawn.

Location-wise, this place is pretty much perfect if you want to experience Bologna like a local. You’re a two-minute walk from all the main sights, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by the kind of neighborhood spots that make Bologna special. There’s this fantastic osteria just around the corner that I never would have found if I’d been staying out in the modern districts. The staff at Suite Nico actually knows the area – they pointed me toward a wine bar on Via del Pratello that became my regular evening spot, and they had solid recommendations for everything from where to get the best mortadella to which gelato place has the most interesting flavors (hint: it’s not the obvious tourist one). Honestly, the 9.1 rating makes sense when you stay here – it’s not just about nice rooms, it’s about feeling connected to the city in a way that a lot of hotels, even good ones, don’t quite manage to pull off.

I would travel back to Bologna just to stay in this property! You won’t be disappointed, exceptional customer care from start to finish.

  The apartment is located in a perfect location if you arrive at the Bologna Centrale station. It is super close to the main attraction in Bologna and it provided everyting we needed for a one night stay. It was also very clean and the two bathrooms are a great bonus!

  We didn’t stay here as it was double booked but Nicoletta had another apartment for us, Suite Sole Bologna Centro which was perfect. A great location, and 2 beds, 2 bathrooms which suited us 2 couples
