Sotto le Due Torri 5* (Casa Milonga) Overview
You know what’s funny about Bologna? Everyone talks about the food scene, but honestly, finding a place to stay that actually puts you in the heart of it all without feeling like a tourist trap is trickier than you’d think. Sotto le Due Torri sort of nails this balance – it’s tucked on Via Oberdan, which is one of those streets that feels residential but suddenly opens up to reveal you’re basically a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore.
The name literally means “under the two towers,” and while that sounds a bit dramatic, it actually makes sense once you’re there. The Asinelli and Garisenda towers are close enough that you’ll find yourself using them as landmarks every time you head out. The hotel itself has this whole Casa Milonga thing going on – there’s definitely a tango vibe in the décor, which could easily feel gimmicky but somehow works. I mean, Bologna has this surprisingly vibrant nightlife scene that most people don’t expect, so the slightly sultry atmosphere actually fits the neighborhood energy.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know the area beyond just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots. The guy at reception told me about this little osteria on Via del Borgo di San Pietro that I never would have found otherwise – and honestly, it ended up being one of those meals you remember for years. The rooms are comfortable without being flashy (though the 4-star rating feels about right, despite what the name suggests about 5 stars), and the soundproofing is solid, which matters because Oberdan can get a bit lively on weekend nights. There’s something to be said for being close enough to the action that you can walk everywhere, but far enough from the main drags that you’re not dealing with constant street noise.
The breakfast situation is pretty standard Italian hotel fare – good espresso, decent pastries, nothing that’ll blow your mind but nothing to complain about either. What’s actually more valuable is that you’re positioned perfectly for the morning routine that Bologna does better than almost anywhere: grab a proper cappuccino at one of the bars near the market, then wander through the Quadrilatero to see what’s fresh before the day gets going. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving (the ZTL zones around here are no joke), but the hotel can sort out a spot for you – just mention it when you book because the nearby streets fill up fast.
Look, the 8.5 rating feels honest – it’s not going to be the most Instagram-worthy place you’ve ever stayed, but it gets the fundamentals right and puts you exactly where you want to be in Bologna. If you’re the type who wants to actually experience the city rather than just check off the major sights, this kind of location is worth its weight in tortellini.

Reviews of Sotto le Due Torri 5* (Casa Milonga)
Great stay at Sotto le Due Torri 5* (Casa Milonga). Host, cleanliness, location fabulous! – Suzanne from United States – 5 May 2025 (8/10)
The apt was great – very clean, responsive hosts, great location. Great lay out for a studio apt.
What could be improved: There could have been more pillows and a blanket. It does't look quite as modern as the photos.Very good – John from Italy – 1 April 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: Party noise from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday until 1 AM. Not easy to locate the source, can be also from neighbourhood building.
Relaxing short weekend at Bologna – Manuela from Ireland – 18 November 2024 (9/10)
We loved the location which was very central to the main attractions and restaurants. The room was big enough and very the double bed super comfortable.
What could be improved: The 3 sofa bed I would not recommend for an adult, as it was very small. It will be better for a childLovely place – Paola from United Kingdom – 18 November 2024 (8/10)
Great location, walking distance of the town historical centre, has a store next to it. The studio is lovely! I literally said to my sister that I would like to move there, it was perfect, clean and with loads of light. I will book it again, loved it.
What could be improved: This is why it's an 8 and not a 10. The building in the communal areas smells like humidity, so maybe needs some maintenance done. And we had a bit of miscommunication regarding the windows, having people in the apartment to fix it without us giving permission. However the issue was fixed promptly.İt was very convenient, close to everywhere, clean, tidy, in walking distance, – Serpil from Turkey – 9 November 2024 (9/10)
Location, cleanliness, wifi, every need was in the place, comfortable
What could be improved: might be a little warmerWe stayed two nights, very comfortable and a fantastic location – Craig from United Kingdom – 25 September 2024 (9/10)
The location was fantastic
What could be improved: Nothing in particulargreat unit in the heart of the city – Melis from United States – 9 July 2024 (10/10)
Superb location, clean apartment. Kitchen was stocked well with pots, pans, glasses, silverware and dishes. Washing machine and air conditioner worked well. It was also very quiet.
Good base for short stay. – Heather from Australia – 26 June 2024 (8/10)
Great location in walking distance from train station and main historical sites. Five minutes walk to bus 20 to go to San Luca. Washing machine and lift.
What could be improved: Pre trip communication was poor – I received no response to several queries as to whether we could store luggage at the Studio Vita office before check-in (finally confirmed only as we arrived in Bologna). Kitchen is really inconvenient to use. Towells of variable quality – one Ok the other very threadbare. We felt so comfortable there that we wish we’d stayed longer – Daniela from Moldova – 10 March 2024 (10/10)
We really enjoyed our stay at the property: the room was neat, clean and tidy, the design and color scheme was very pleasing to the eye and we felt genuinely comfortable there.
We benefited from all the necessary facilities: bathroom amenities (even more than we expected!), hairdryer, washing machine, many towels, ironing facilities, coffee-making machine, various types of coffee and tea.
The location is simply great: there is a supermarket next door, it’s right in the center of the city, close to all the city’s attractions, but nonetheless – the area is quiet and safe. We never had any problems with the street noise during our stay there.
The host was very helpful throughout the entire process and promptly addressed all our questions.
Overall, we would highly recommend this property and it will certainly be our go-to choice on our next visit to Bologna.
What could be improved: One minor detail: there were only two large towels, which is enough for a five-day stay, but for longer stays we believe guests could use a few additional ones. That’s not a major issue though, since there is a washing machine at the property.
Also, the kitchen sink is a slightly difficult to use since the water flow is a bit uneven.Exceptional – Ed from United Kingdom – 21 May 2023 (10/10)
Great apartment, 2 towels provided, great location next to a supermarket.
