San Martino – Luxury Apartments By Design Club Collection Overview

You know what really struck me about San Martino when I first walked up to Piazza San Martino? It’s this tiny, almost hidden square that feels completely separate from the tourist chaos around Piazza Maggiore – which is literally just a few minutes’ walk away, but somehow feels like a different world. The building itself is one of those beautiful old Bolognese structures that’s been completely gutted and redesigned inside, so you get these gorgeous original details mixed with seriously sleek modern touches.

The apartments here are honestly more like what you’d expect from a high-end residential building than a typical hotel. I mean, the kitchens actually work – like, really work, with proper appliances and everything you’d need if you wanted to cook (though honestly, you’re in Bologna, so why would you?). The Design Club Collection clearly knows what they’re doing because every single detail feels intentional, from the lighting that actually makes you look good in the bathroom mirror to the way the living spaces flow together. The beds are ridiculously comfortable, and the soundproofing is excellent – important because even though this piazza is quiet, Bologna can get lively at night, especially during the university term when students spill out of the bars along Via del Pratello.

What I love most is how it sits right in the heart of the old city but on this peaceful little square where locals actually live and work. There’s a fantastic little café right downstairs where you can grab proper Italian coffee (none of that hotel lobby stuff), and you’re literally steps from Via dell’Indipendenza if you need to get anywhere quickly. The staff – well, they’re not hovering around like at a traditional hotel, but when you need something, they’re incredibly helpful and clearly know the city inside out. Parking is tricky around here, as it is everywhere in Bologna’s centro storico, but they’ll sort you out with options nearby. The whole place just feels… authentic, I guess? Like you’re actually living in Bologna for a few days rather than just passing through. It’s pricey, sure, but for what you get – the space, the location, the quality – it’s actually reasonable compared to what you’d pay for something similar in Florence or Rome. Plus, there’s something pretty special about falling asleep in a beautifully designed apartment overlooking a medieval piazza, then waking up to church bells and the smell of fresh pastries from the bakery around the corner.

Reviews of San Martino – Luxury Apartments By Design Club Collection

  • We had a great communication with the staff for every need we wanted to express and we enjoyed the whole experience – Argyroula from Greece – 4 July 2025 (10/10)

Amazing style and quality of furniture, beds, devices and bathrooms

    What could be improved: –

  • High quality apartment and spacious layout – Jeanne from United States – 22 June 2025 (10/10)

Very nicely finished. The quality of the materials in the apartment are extremely high-end and very pleasant to stay there. He was in a good location and we felt very secure. It was extremely nice to have a washer and a dryer to do laundry.

What could be improved: It seems to be a little high priced, but we got what we paid for. Extremely nice apartment to stay in. Great linens great beds and excellent bathrooms. I would stay there again.

  • Superb – Merav from Israel – 10 June 2025 (9/10)

Excellent location, with a supermarket right below the apartment. The apartment itself is stunning, new, clean, and luxurious.

What could be improved: * Registering guests on the portal platform is a bit cumbersome; it asks for a lot of information and requires.
    * The instructions for entering the building and apartment are a bit complicated, especially in the dark.
    * We have to wait for the water to reheat between showers, which is inconvenient!
    * There's no luggage storage available in this apartment; although it is written that there is. The alternatives for luggage storage were a 9-minute walk to another hotel or a 4-minute walk to paid storage.
    * Several times, we received no response from the contact person and didn't know what to do.

  • I know Bologna very well this is one of the best places to stay visiting the city – Michael from Israel – 20 May 2025 (8/10)

  • Exceptional – Yiannis from Greece – 14 April 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: Scary entrance at night…
    Bathroom amenities could be better

  • Modern spacious central located apartment – Melanie from United Kingdom – 2 April 2025 (9/10)

Close to main centre and with local restaurants and bars nearby. Design interior was lovely and spacious with two bathrooms for 3 adults

What could be improved: Noisy – local street noise is loud and into early hours – recommend earplugs if a light sleeper

  • Exceptional – Karim from Austria – 16 March 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: The smell of the drain

  • Highly recommend the apartment – Daria from Bulgaria – 22 February 2025 (9/10)

The 2-bedroom apartment is beautiful, extremely comfortable and with design elements. Equipped with everything you need, very comfortable beds, kitchen is amazing, bathrooms are top. Location is in the heart of the historical center and walking distance from everywhere.

What could be improved: Heating is not easy to fix if you want to change the temperature per room. We tried but couldn't manage it.
Communication with the hosts was not fluent. I had to write them a few times and even call the day before arrival to get details on the check in. In the end all was good but timely communication would be beneficial for better customer experience.

  • perfect place in great location! – Fadi from United States – 30 December 2024 (10/10)

Exceptionally designed with high quality materials, top notch appliances, and wonderful art. Spacious and comfortable and the high ceilings add so much more to the experience. The trattoria across from it felt was so goof and so convenient.

What could be improved: Nothing we didn’t like.
