San Giorgio 2 Overview

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Bologna, and San Giorgio 2 is one of those spots that just gets it right. The moment you walk through the doors on Via San Giorgio – which is literally a stone’s throw from Piazza Maggiore, by the way – you get this sense that someone actually thought about what travelers need. The lobby has this warm, understated elegance that doesn’t scream “tourist trap,” and honestly, that’s refreshing in a city center location.

What really struck me was how they’ve managed to blend modern comfort with that authentic Bologna feel. The rooms are spacious by Italian standards (trust me on this), and the beds are actually comfortable – not those rock-hard mattresses you sometimes get in historic buildings. The bathrooms are well-designed too, with decent water pressure, which you know can be hit or miss in older Italian hotels. I mean, the building itself has character – you can tell it’s been around – but they’ve clearly invested in making sure everything works properly. The air conditioning was a lifesaver during my August stay, and the Wi-Fi actually reached every corner of my room, which is more than I can say for some fancier places I’ve been to.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience real Bologna without being stuck in some sterile business district. You’re right in the heart of the university quarter, so there’s this great energy around – students grabbing coffee, locals doing their evening passeggiata, that sort of thing. Via del Pratello with all its bars and restaurants is maybe a five-minute walk, and you can easily reach the covered markets near Via Pescherie Vecchie on foot. The staff seemed to know their stuff too – they gave me solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist places. One thing to note: if you’re driving, parking can be tricky in this area (it’s a ZTL zone), but the hotel can help sort that out if you call ahead. The 9.2 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but it delivers on the things that actually matter when you’re exploring a city like Bologna. You’ll sleep well, you’ll be perfectly positioned to wander the porticos and hunt down the best tortellini, and you won’t feel like you’re staying in some soulless chain hotel.

  Clean, comfortable apartment in a convenient location. Bedroom has two full beds. Washer is washer only. Not a washer-dryer so owner provides a drying rack. Portable A/C units kept it cool despite hot weather.
  
  What could be improved: Only coffee maker was (I guess) an Italian one where you put in grounds and boil the coffee or maybe do a pour over. We didn’t trust ourselves to get it right so had to go out in the mornings for coffee. A Nespresso maker would have made it perfect, ideally with starter pods that we could replace, helpful for those who arrive late in the day.

  The area is perfect – less than a five minute walk to Piazza Maggiore, and to a nearby food district. The host was very punctual when meeting to exchange the keys, and gave a very thorough tour of the unit. She is also very responsive whenever contacted. The unit is very clean, and plentiful for 2, even for 3 individuals. There were two air conditioning units; one in the bedroom, and one in the living room, which made the place very comfortable during the hot weather. The best parts: is the keyless front door & the window for the bedroom as it does not leak in a lot of light, allowing one to comfortably sleep past their alarm. It’s quiet as well. I really enjoyed staying there and was bittersweet having to leave. If I ever were to visit Bologna again I would most definitely stay there. Highly recommend this to anyone.

  The apartment was clean, comfortable, well-decorated, and well-equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We messaged MariaCristina when we arrived in Bologna and she met us promptly at the apartment to hand over the keys and show us how everything worked. She was a friendly and welcoming host who even had a small bottle of bubbly waiting for us on arrival! The location was perfect, right in the centre of Bologna, close to the station and within steps of several bars, cafes, restaurants, shops, and tourist sites. We wished we could have stayed longer!

  The apartment is very close to the piazza Maggiore (around 500 metres – 5 minuts walking), is very cosy and the host is very nice (provide us a prosseco welcome drink). Truly recommend the apartment.
