Room 48 Bologna Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Room 48 Bologna on Via Massarenti, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical four-star hotel. The building has this understated elegance that feels distinctly Italian — not flashy, but there’s something really appealing about how it sits quietly on the street. I mean, the name itself gives you a hint about what to expect: it’s intimate, almost like staying at a well-appointed friend’s place rather than some massive chain property.
The Perfect Bologna Base
Here’s what I love about this location in Bologna — you’re positioned perfectly to actually live like a local for a few days. Via Massarenti puts you in this residential area that feels authentic, but honestly, you’re still close enough to everything that matters. The couples who stay here consistently rave about the location, and I get why. You can walk to the historic center without feeling like you’re fighting tourist crowds every step of the way, and there’s this nice neighborhood energy around the hotel that makes evening strolls really pleasant.
Your Space
The room design strikes this nice balance between modern comfort and Italian style — nothing too trendy that’ll look dated in two years, but definitely thoughtful touches throughout. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to make relatively compact spaces feel open and functional. The attention to detail is there without being overwhelming, and you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want after a long day of exploring Bologna’s porticos and piazzas. Each apartment-style layout includes a well-equipped kitchenette for added convenience.
Morning Rituals
The Italian breakfast here actually feels Italian, which sounds obvious but trust me, it’s not always the case at hotels. They focus on quality rather than an endless buffet spread — fresh pastries, proper coffee, local specialties that give you a real taste of Emilian food culture. I found myself looking forward to breakfast each morning, which honestly doesn’t always happen when I’m traveling. It’s served in a space that gets lovely morning light, making it a genuinely nice way to start your Bologna adventures. The on-site restaurant also offers excellent regional cuisine.
Why Guests Love It
Room 48 Bologna works because it doesn’t try to be everything to everyone — instead, it does a few things really well. The location consistently earns top marks because it’s genuinely useful, not just “central.” You’re in a neighborhood where real Bologna residents live and work, but you can still reach the university area, the historic center, or catch trains to other Italian cities without any hassle. The staff seems to understand that travelers want authentic experiences, and they’re helpful without being intrusive. Convenient parking options are available for guests with vehicles. It’s the kind of place where you settle in quickly and start planning your return visit before you’ve even checked out.
Hotel in Bologna reservations spike before art biennales when gallerists and collectors fill boutique palazzi.

Reviews of Room 48 Bologna
Very good – Valentina from Italy – 6 July 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: NullaAmazing apartment – Christiana81 from Cyprus – 2 July 2025 (9/10)
The room was fantastic! So spacious and clean. The bed was super comfy. It had all the things I needed. Breakfast bar, water, and yoghurt in the fridge. The bathroom was very big and spacious. Mini market very near and some beautiful cafes as well. The host was very helpful with clear instructions on how to find and access the building and apartment. I would definitely go back.
What could be improved: It's about 15 minutes walk from the centre but it's near the uni which was where I had to be. Also, it can get a bit noisy because it's on a main road, so it's not easy to have the window open.Exceptional – Marilena from Italy – 27 June 2025 (10/10)
Camera grande con altrettanto bagno. Appena fuori dal centro ma ben collegato dai mezzi pubblici.
Superb – Jelle from Belgium – 11 June 2025 (9/10)
Good location just outside the historic city. Comfortable rooms.
What could be improved: Breakfast is somewhat limited, which is to be expected as there is no actual personnel at the place.Terrible experience – please read before booking! – Carlos from United Kingdom – 19 May 2025 (2/10)
The hotel location was good
What could be improved: The landlord was extremely rude, arrogant and dishonest and tried to charge us additional tax fees until booking.com thankfully intervened.
The room had no iron or facility to press clothes.
The electricity cut out during stay – although we managed to find the trip switch in the hallway to resolve this.
The shower didn’t drain, resulting in the shower tub quickly filling up with water and reducing shower time to a maximum of 1-2 minutes.
The bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable and the walls are extremely thin so you can hear everything from the adjacent rooms.
All in all a horrible experience which ruined our visit.Lovely room in a lovely location definitely recommended and we hope to return next year – Chayelee from United Kingdom – 11 April 2025 (10/10)
Great location just a short walk to get into the old town where all the bars and restaurants were.
What could be improved: If I was being really picky, a kettle would have been good as I am a tea drinker not coffee but now a problemNice stay – Margita from Slovakia – 29 March 2025 (7/10)
Pros: Great location, comfortable mattress, good coffee, friendly staff. We could leave our suitcases before check in which was very nice and it helped us since we arrived early.
Cons: Unfortunately, there was a cigarette smell in the flat and we didn’t know where it’s from. This made our stay a bit uncomfortable.Exceptional – Tasevska from North Macedonia – 29 September 2024 (10/10)
The apartment is new and fully equipped. It was very clean and the staff were very helpful. The location is great.
A hint of luxury, with supreme comfort, on the doorstep of history. – Patrick from Australia – 26 September 2024 (10/10)
A really lovely place… everything very neat and tidy. Great comfortable bed, an incredible shower, spacious balcony. Generous breakfast condiments and coffee machine.
What could be improved: Nothing. The nicest place we’ve stayed in across our whole trip.
