Romantic attic room with panoramic view Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “attic room” in the listing, I was a bit worried about awkward slanted ceilings and maybe feeling cramped. But this place on Mura di Porta Castiglione completely flipped my expectations. The moment you walk in, you’re hit with this incredible light streaming through the windows, and then you see that view. I mean, seriously – it’s one of those panoramic spreads across Bologna’s terracotta rooftops that makes you understand why people fall in love with this city.

The location is actually perfect if you know Bologna at all. You’re right on the old city walls (which is what “Mura” means, by the way), so you get this perfect balance of being in the historic center but not dealing with the tourist chaos around Piazza Maggiore. It’s maybe a 10-minute walk to the main square, but you’re tucked away enough that you can actually sleep at night – something I definitely couldn’t say about my last stay near the university area. The street itself is quiet, mostly locals, and there’s this little osteria about three doors down that serves the best tortellini in brodo I’ve had outside of someone’s nonna’s kitchen.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve used the space. Yeah, it’s an attic, but they’ve made it feel expansive rather than cramped. The bed sits perfectly under this skylight where you can actually see stars (rare in a city center), and there’s this cozy reading nook by the main window where I spent way too much time with my morning coffee just watching the city wake up. The bathroom is surprisingly spacious too – I was expecting some tiny European situation, but you can actually move around in there. One small thing though: the stairs up are a bit steep, so if you’re traveling with heavy luggage, just mentally prepare for that climb.

The whole experience feels authentically Bologna, you know? It’s not trying to be some generic luxury hotel – instead, it captures that lived-in, artistic vibe the city is known for. The host clearly knows the neighborhood inside out; they gave me this handwritten list of local spots that included a wine bar I never would have found otherwise (it’s literally just a door with no sign on Via del Pratello). Check-in was smooth, parking… well, it’s Bologna, so good luck with that, but there’s a decent garage about five minutes away if you’re driving.

Honestly, the 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’re there. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours, and the shower pressure is just okay – but those feel like minor details when you’re waking up to that view every morning. This is the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay, maybe work remotely for a few days just to soak in more of that Bologna rhythm. If you’re looking for something that feels special without being pretentious, and you want to experience the city like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through, this attic room hits exactly the right note.

  • Fabulous Short stay in this gorgeous little apartment. – Lizi from United Kingdom – 11 February 2025 (9/10)

The amazing views! The location was brilliant. Very close to all the main sites. And THE best Pasticceria just around the corner! The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Perfect for a couple.

What could be improved: There was no kettle, but apart from that, everything was great

I highly recommend this apartment in Bologna:
    1. Instructions are clear, key box works very well.
    2. Amazing pararoma view in all rooms, two balconies is a plus.
    3. New renovation in old building, immediately feel cozy like at home.
4: located in quiet area in Bologna but only 15mins walk to very center.
    5. Host is very helpful and love to help.

If I have a chance to visit bologna again, I will stay here definitely.

  • Apartment with an amazing view and superb features – Martina from Germany – 20 November 2024 (10/10)

Loved the easy self check-in and check-out. The attic apartment is very cute and well-equipped. We felt comfortable and enjoyed the amazing views over the roofs of the historic city centre – from every window. It's just a very short walk to be in the middle of the lively city centre. The communication with our host was effortless and very helpful.

  • Great views and location – Conor from United Kingdom – 4 October 2024 (10/10)

Great location on the edge of the city centre about 15 minute walk to most big attractions. Marco was a great help and the apartment is right next to Al Sangiovese restaurant. Highly recommend eating here for an evening meal. The apartment also has 2 balconies with great views across the Bologna skyline with the famous red rooftops. Check in is a little different but if you follow the steps all will be good.

  • Great location, walking distance to town square and other attractions. View from balconies was great. – Debra from Australia – 28 September 2024 (10/10)

Quaint little apartment but perfect for what we needed and beautiful scenery overlooking terracotta roof tops from 2 bacolnies.

What could be improved: Was a bit hard checking in but Marco responded quickly which was a relief.

  • Perfect apartment in Bologna! – Antonia from Germany – 18 August 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was honestly so beautiful. It was very central, so we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. The two balconies were beautiful and had a great view over the roofs of Bologna. The apartment was in great shape, very modern, super clean and perfectly equipped (like even salt, pepper, olive oil, water bottles etc in the kitchen). We felt as if really nothing has missed. Aircon, even the blowdryer had great strength… There was also an elevator, just some minor steps to walk. It was just perfect and we had a great stay – we would definitely come back!

What could be improved: Nothing, it was great.

  • Brill apartment met all our expectations. – Roddy from United Kingdom – 28 June 2024 (9/10)

Communication with the host (Marco) was excellent. I received timely replies to all my queries before and during my stay and all information provided was accurate. The location is excellent 10mins from main square on foot. Marco’s recommendations for eating out were very good, we also found a couple of good bars with music locally. The apartment was exceptionally clean and provided everything needed for a lovely stay including views of the city from the balcony.

    What could be improved: N/A

  • Fantastic modern apartment for couples with excellent air conditioning & balcony views – Allan from United Kingdom – 20 June 2024 (10/10)

My wife and I are just back from Bologna with Marco's apartment helping to create a fantastic holiday. The building was entered via an electronic link on a website then a key box outside the apartment which made it very secure. The apartment itself was perfect for a couple. Clean, modern & comfortable with everything required for self accommodation including excellent air conditioning units in both the Livingroom (with balcony) & bedroom (with balcony) which also had a very comfortable big bed. It had a modern bathroom with walk in shower. We had breakfast each morning on the living room balcony as the view over the rooftops was wonderful and you'd struggle to find a cafe/restaraunt as good in the city. Location was perfect too (10 min walk to Piazza Maggoire, 25 to Bologna Centrale). Marco also replied to any questions promptly. I would definitely recommend to friends and would also use again on return to wonderful Bologna. 10/10

What could be improved: Nothing to complain about
