Pandolf Overview

You know what surprised me about Pandolf? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street – Via Cesare Boldrini – but you’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore. I mean, I’ve stayed in Bologna a few times, and finding that sweet spot between being in the thick of things and actually getting some sleep is tricky.

The building itself has this understated elegance that feels very Bologna, if that makes sense. None of that flashy marble lobby stuff – just warm wood and subtle lighting that makes you feel like you’re staying at a well-traveled friend’s place. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which honestly caught me off guard. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM because they seem to use that time to really get the rooms perfect. Speaking of rooms, mine faced the interior courtyard, so zero street noise – something I learned to appreciate after staying near the university area where students basically own the night.

What really won me over was how they handle the little things. The breakfast spread isn’t huge, but everything’s clearly sourced locally – the prosciutto di Parma was incredible, and they had this selection of regional cheeses that changed daily. The coffee? Well, it’s Italy, so obviously it’s good, but they actually have someone who knows their way around the machine rather than just pushing buttons. I found myself lingering in that breakfast room way longer than planned, partly because of the food but mostly because of the light streaming through these tall windows that overlook the courtyard.

The location grows on you throughout your stay. Sure, you’re not on the main drag, but that means you get to walk past actual neighborhood spots – there’s this tiny enoteca around the corner that locals pack every evening, and the morning market on Via Drapperie is just a pleasant stroll away. Plus, and this is key if you’re planning to explore the hills around Bologna, the hotel can arrange parking nearby, which saves you from the headache of driving into the historic center yourself.

I’ll be honest – the rooms aren’t massive, but they’re thoughtfully designed. Good storage, a bathroom that actually fits two people, and these blackout curtains that work. The air conditioning runs quietly, which matters more than you’d think during those sticky July nights. My only minor gripe was that the Wi-Fi got a bit spotty on the top floor, but nothing that killed productivity.

The real test of any hotel is whether you’d come back, and honestly? I’m already eyeing dates for next spring. Bologna’s got this way of getting under your skin – the food, the energy, the way locals take their evening passeggiata so seriously – and Pandolf feels like it gets that. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it nails being the kind of spot where you can drop your bags and immediately feel like you’re part of the neighborhood rather than just passing through.

Reviews of Pandolf

  • Pleasant memories in Bologna – Nataliia from Ukraine – 9 June 2025 (10/10)

Great location, walking distance to all you must see in Bologna, very cosy and comfortable apartment, responsive and helpful host. We enjoyed the weekend!

  • Excellent accommodation and very good communication with host – Hermine from Australia – 31 May 2025 (10/10)

    Amenities and cleanliness.
    Communication excellent
    Proximity to station

What could be improved: Please provide tester and services

  • Convenient next-to-station stay with all the necessities. – Ken from Japan – 27 April 2025 (9/10)

Very convenient location next to the central train station and still walkable distance to the tourist attractions. The rooms were clean and big enough for the two of us. The check in instructions were very clear and the Host was extremely attentive (via WhatsApp).

What could be improved: I believe the temperature is centrally managed, so make sure you bring adjustable wears if you are a too-cold or too-hot person. Since it is an apartment, they are unable to keep your luggage after check-out (but you can always use "Bounce Luggage Storage" available in multiple locations).

  • Fabulous apartment! – Valerie from Canada – 12 April 2025 (10/10)

The apartment was spacious, bright, clean, well equipped and comfortable. Antonio was very responsive and helpful. The instructions to access the apartment were clear and it was a very short walk from the train station, which was quite nice as I had a heavy backpack.

What could be improved: That I was only staying there one night!

On a more serious note, if you needed to use the elevator (the apt is up four flights of stairs), it was quite small. However, I only used it to take my bag up the first time and after that made use of the stairs.

  • Nice apartment near train station. – Roger from United States – 4 April 2025 (10/10)

This apartment is very convenient to the train station. It is clean and comfortable. We only stayed for one night, so we had minimal use of the kitchen but it seemed adequate. The shower was very good. We would stay here again. Good value.

What could be improved: No coffee, but there is a stove top coffeemaker and a water boiler.

  • Everything was good, except check-in process. – Anna from Czech Republic – 1 April 2025 (9/10)

Everything was good, except check-in process.

What could be improved: Check-in can be improved significantly: host can either meet guest in person OR can prepare a guide for self check in and share it in via booking messages. Instead, I received 10+ messages before and during my stay asking for my email, my phone, my whatsapp, to send a copy of my passport (like really?) etc etc. Would prefer to spend this time on sightseeing instead.

  • I’d come back again. – Sara from United States – 21 March 2025 (10/10)

    Location was key for me

What could be improved: Noisy noisy noisy!

  • Superb – Maria from United States – 13 October 2024 (9/10)

It was a good place to be. I was thankful for the elevator. I couldn’t figure out how to work the tv but the wifi was good so I streamed movies. Great location.

What could be improved: Noisy at times, partly due to construction in the building.

  • Great!! – Maria from United States – 18 September 2024 (10/10)

    Super clean!!!

What could be improved: I didn’t like the drug addicts at the entrance of the main door of the building at night.

  • Very good – Alex from United States – 3 September 2024 (8/10)

very nice and new and renovated

What could be improved: the entrance outside is a bit sketchy with homeless
