You know what caught me off guard about Mama Janet? The name had me expecting some sort of rustic B&B situation, but this is actually a proper 4-star spot that feels way more sophisticated than it sounds. It’s tucked right on Via delle Lame – and if you know Bologna at all, you’ll recognize this as one of those streets that locals actually use, not just tourists wandering around lost.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere real. You’re about a 10-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but here’s the thing – you’re close enough to the Mercato delle Erbe that you can smell the fresh produce in the mornings, and there’s this fantastic little osteria literally around the corner that I stumbled into on my second night. The staff at Mama Janet actually recommended it, which tells you something about how plugged in they are to the neighborhood. Speaking of the staff, they’re the kind of people who remember your name and ask how your day in the city went – not in that forced hospitality way, but like they genuinely care.

The rooms have this lived-in elegance that works really well in Bologna. I mean, the city isn’t about flashy luxury anyway, it’s about substance, and Mama Janet gets that completely. My room had these beautiful old wooden floors that creaked just slightly when you walked (in a charming way, not annoying), and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious with one of those rainfall showers that actually has good water pressure. The bed was comfortable enough that I overslept twice, which never happens to me when I’m traveling. One small thing – the WiFi is solid throughout the building, which matters if you’re trying to research restaurants or book train tickets to Florence.

What really sold me on this place was how quiet it gets at night, despite being in the middle of everything. Via delle Lame isn’t a party street, so you can actually sleep with the windows open and just hear the occasional Vespa puttering by. During the day, you’ve got the university district energy without the chaos – lots of students grabbing coffee, people heading to work, that sort of authentic daily rhythm you want when you’re visiting a place like Bologna. The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me because it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. If you’re the type of traveler who wants to feel connected to a neighborhood rather than isolated in some tourist bubble, Mama Janet delivers on that completely.

  Apartament idealny dla rodziny 2+4, blisko centrum. Wyposażony we wszystkie potrzebne elementy, jest nawet pralka. Bardzo dobra klimatyzacja. Wygodne łózka, telewizja. Był tylko mały problem z wifi. Bardzo miły właściciel, pomocny i reagujący na problemy.

  The accomodation is on the ground floor, but renovated, nice and clean. The host was nice and always available on WhatsApp. The location is also great, very close to the city center. We liked it, maybe I would suggest a basket with coffee as nice to have.
