You know what struck me first about Residence delle Erbe? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street called Via San Gervasio, but you’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore – I mean, you can practically hear the evening buzz from the main square when you’re settling in for the night. The building itself has this understated elegance that feels very Bologna, if that makes sense. Not flashy, just… right.

Studio Vita really nailed the design here. The rooms have these gorgeous high ceilings – honestly, I spent way too much time just lying in bed looking up at them – and the way they’ve mixed contemporary touches with the original architecture is pretty impressive. The floors are this beautiful hardwood that creaks just slightly when you walk (in a charming way, not annoying), and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase without feeling like you’re playing Tetris. What I really appreciated was the kitchen setup in each unit; it’s not just a mini-fridge and a sad coffee maker, but an actual functional space where you can prep some of those incredible ingredients from Mercato delle Erbe, which is basically around the corner. Speaking of which, the morning sounds from the market are lovely – you’ll hear vendors setting up around 7 AM, but it’s more like a gentle wake-up call than a disturbance.

The staff here actually knows the neighborhood, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about dinner recommendations, they didn’t just rattle off tourist spots but mentioned this tiny osteria on Via Pescherie Vecchie that I never would have found otherwise. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of Bologna – well, anywhere in Bologna really – but they’ll help you figure out the ZTL zones and point you toward the nearest garage. The 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but everything just works smoothly. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, the WiFi actually functions properly (crucial for those of us who can’t fully disconnect), and the beds are properly comfortable – firm enough that you don’t sink into oblivion but soft enough that you’ll sleep well after a day of wandering Bologna’s endless porticoes. If you’re the type who likes to feel like you’re living in a place rather than just passing through, this is your spot.

  A simple, clean apartment which had a great location for easily walking around the main areas of Bologna. Facilities in the apartment were good, not that we were there much other than to sleep! We eat out and so did not use the kitchen – my wife was happy that it had a washing machine!

  The location is opposite a market with amazing and relaxed restaurants. There is a lot of noise but the windows are excellent and double glazed so it did not interrupt sleep. The apartment is on 2nd floor with a lift, a large studio and very comfortable, great kitchen and everything you will need. In less than ten minutes walk you are at Piazza Maggiore the very centre of beautiful Bologna. This apartment is outstanding, the host Francesco organised a very reliable taxi for our departure at 0530. Thank you!
  
  What could be improved: We were asked to upload our passports and a pic of us holding our passports onto a website for check in, we were not comfortable with that due to possible identity theft and the hosts were understanding and had someone meet us at the apartment for check in. We have never been asked to upload this personal information to a third party site at any other accommodation on booking.com ..then someone delivered some toilet paper and had our passport pics on their phone. It was all a bit unnerving tbh and felt quite intrusive. However, the hosts were friendly and accepted our unacceptance of the ID requests.

  We have now used these apartments several times with various family members. The location is excellent for central Bologna. Communication with the property owners is also first rate and the information provided to access the apartments was easy to understand. The units are large studios and are well appointed with electrical appliances. The lift was helpful for the suitcases as the apartments are on the 2nd floor, but easily accessible by the wide staircase for those with the mobility to use them. Overall, the studios both offer an excellent starting point to explore Bologna.
  
  What could be improved: A very minor point, due to the central restricted traffic location you do need to get dropped off in a neighbouring street, such as Via Belvedere, but that is only 25m or so from the property. Minor but may be important for some travellers.

  The location was great and within walking distance so many things. Air conditioner worked great and the apartment was pretty much as pictured, although maybe a little smaller than I thought. Very clean as well. We only stayed one night and were not in the apartment much, but this suited our needs. Check-in was done through an app and worked well. Communication from the apartment owner was quick and responsive.
