You know what caught me off guard about Realkasa Zago Apartment? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in San Donato, and I mean really quiet – the kind where you actually hear birds in the morning instead of traffic. Via Emilio Zago isn’t one of those touristy Bologna streets everyone talks about, but honestly, that’s exactly why it works. You’re living like a local here, which sounds cliché but it’s true. The building has that solid, no-nonsense Italian apartment feel – thick walls that actually keep sound out (trust me, I’m a light sleeper), and the kind of shutters that make the room properly dark when you need to sleep off jet lag.

The apartment itself is – well, it’s just really well thought out. Someone clearly lives in Bologna and knows what travelers actually need, not what some corporate hotel chain thinks they need. The kitchen has decent knives, the coffee maker works properly, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without everything feeling cramped. I appreciated the little touches too – proper hangers, not those weird hotel ones, and the shower has actual water pressure. The 4-star rating feels right; it’s not trying to be fancy, just comfortable and functional. What really sold me was the location though. San Donato is about 20 minutes from the centro storico, but here’s the thing – the bus connections are actually good, and you’re close to some genuinely great local spots that tourists never find. There’s this bakery about three blocks away that does incredible focaccia, and the Saturday market nearby has vendors who’ve been there for decades.

I stayed here in late September, and the apartment stays cool naturally – those old Italian buildings really know how to handle heat. The host was responsive without being hovering, which is exactly what you want. Check-in was smooth, and they actually gave useful local tips, not just the standard “here’s the wifi password” routine. The 9.4 rating makes sense when you stay here; it’s not perfect (the street can get a bit echoey when people walk by late at night, and parking isn’t included), but it does what it promises really well. If you’re the type who wants to experience Bologna without staying in some generic hotel near the train station, this place gets it right. You’ll end up taking the same route to the bus stop that locals take to work, buying groceries at the neighborhood market, and actually feeling like you’re staying somewhere real. That’s worth more than marble lobbies and overpriced room service, at least in my book.

  Excellent modern apartment with all the facilities and in a lovely location. Everything was modern and new. Bedrooms were spacious and plenty of wardrobe space, no tripping over suitcases. Beds were comfortable and additional pillows/duvet provided. Both bathrooms were spacious and modern. Lovely living area with so much space and a smart TV. Had a lovely balcony too. Right opposite Lidl for convenience and bus stops which take you to old town via the train station.
  
  Marco the agent was very professional, courteous and friendly. Was prompt to meet us to hand over the keys and explain things. Even outside of office hours he was very approachable and prompt to reply to my messages.
